Bush wants your internet records
"MINNEAPOLIS — The federal government wants your Internet provider to keep track of every Web site you visit.

For more than a year, the U.S. Justice Department has been in discussions with Internet companies and privacy rights advocates, trying to come up with a plan that would make it easier for investigators to check records of Web traffic.

The idea is to help law enforcement track down child pornographers. But some see it as another step toward total surveillance of citizens, joining warrantless wiretapping, secret scrutiny of library records and unfettered access to e-mail as another power that could be abused."

1. That's been going on for some time now.
And how will they differ between unsolicited mail, mail from organizations one no longer gives a damn about, the fact I'm the occasional youtube and DU Lounge junkie, and so on?

Shrub is about as popular as the plague! I assume that's what they're looking for...people who disagree with this admin.

I don't GAS. They can go look at all my thousands of posts if they want. Heck, they don't even have to do that! Call me, and I'll be happy to tell you how much of an arrogant idiot Ibelieve he is!

3. What DON'T they want? You've got Jerry Falwell looking
at your mail and he doesn't like what he sees. When this gang gets through, civil liberties will be a thing of the past. Nixon could only dream of doing what this President has already accomplished.

4. that's ass backwards
your internet provider already has the technical ability to block you from accessing certain sites. Just ask Vonage, which is blocked by several internet providers.

They have no legitimate reason to track ALL of our internet activity in order to protect children from being abused by child porn providers and lookers. All they have to do is continuously update the child porn lists or block content from locations known to distribute child porn.

5. What's wrong with getting a judge to issue a warrant?
Some of us were raised with the idea of Due Process.

Maybe I'm just too old-fashioned, though.
