16. absolutely. the first woman president will be a republican
a democrat has a hard enough time getting elected, and being female is a minus for the republican and independents.

otoh, imagine a woman republican. it's still a minus for the republicans and independents, but the republicans would vote party line anyway because they don't know how to do anything else, and the independents and democrats would be torn, and many would either vote for the woman or sit it out. so a woman republican has a MUCH easier time getting elected than a woman democrat.

24. He was our hero. When he spoke, everyone listened
Remember that? I literally sat down to watch a CSPAM replay of one of his speeches. He spoke, I just listened, it was that good.

Oh god, to have that again today, what a joy. What hath we wrought?

29. he wasnt my hero, he was a man. and he did a job our country hired
him to do. no hero. and not perfect. good. and he was respected, but not a hero. that sounds too much like what they do with bush. i dont do that with anyone. so he may have been your hero, .... but not mine. i thank him for the job he did, though the nafta still pisses me off. i wanted rules. he was good. far from perfect. and i didnt like the way he treated women.

36. Palmer was an interesting character
He was portrayed as a very respectable person, but I found his use of torture and the detention of the reporter quite disturbing.

An entertaining show overall. I liked the character and I think the actor did a great job. Now I guess he's the insurance commercial guy. I hope he has some part in the next season.

31. well
Laura did endorse the former president being a bit too aggressive with his use of the troops before. she also 'spaced' a cylon.

Everybody on the show is a different shade of grey, but I think Laura's grey is a bit darker.

Or, if you're talking fictional sci-fi women, Janeway of Voyager maybe?
Princess Leia? Or, maybe Amidala from Star Wars 1-3?

10. Clark, Hillary, Dean, Kerry, Boxer, Gore, I'll take any of em.
I have nothing against any of our Dem leaders and would support any one of them. I would prefer someone else over Hillary but if she gets the nod she has my 100% support. And if that was the case, I think it would be awesome to see the Big Dawg in the White House again!

I know Hillary isn't overly popular here, but I don't mind her, and I love Bill!

11. Imagine that...
Wonder if he has anyone in mind?
Jeb, Hillary, doesn't matter to the powers that be.
It's about amassing the greatest amount
of power into the smallest group of hands.
Isn't it convenient that they have convinced
us that there is a difference between
the two parties?
The minor issues may appear to change-
(keeps the serfs happy and manageable.)
The major issues, NAFTA, outsourcing,
reducing the American economy and way
of life to fit the global agenda of the multi nationals?
Those wheels will keep turning, so sure,
bring old vote-for-the-Patriot Act-and-further
suppression-of-the-serfs-of-the-world Hillary on!
After all, it's important to vote the lesser of two evils
even when they are the same evil.
Keeps us safe and all.

23. I'd for vote for Boxer in a heartbeat!
She, unlike Hillary, has actually been
challenging the FRAUD and corruption
perpetuated by the neocon global elite.
Given Hillary's role in the Walmarting of
America, and her husband's NAFTA
which played right into the biggest global
human rights violations to the benefit of the multi national
corporations ever, I can come to no conclusion other
than the Clintons are part of the problem- not the solution.

I remember how well it went the LAST time he did that!

Unless she's a raving right wing asswipe, it'll never happen for a LOT MORE election cycles.

A "liberal/progressive" AND a woman? Never gonna happen that I can see.

I would LOVE to be proved wrong - but America is heading more and more into 1930's German sequell and still hasn't changed direction.

38. He also said Hillary isn't thinking about running,
that she's focusing on her re-election:

Does he ever think about flying on board Air Force One in the capacity of first husband?

"Well, the answer to that is no," Clinton says, laughing. "I don’t think about that. And I have urged all of Hillary’s supporters not to think about that, because she’s got to run for re-election. And it’s a big hazard for anybody who’s up for re-election to think about anything but re-election."
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/12/28/60minutes/main1167958_page3.shtml

Of course, that may change after 2006. Personally, as much as I loved and respected Hillary as first lady, I haven't been too pleased with a lot of her positions recently. I would LOVE to see Boxer elected, though!

39. Maybe...It's tough to say
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 05:27 AM by fujiyama
If the country voted for a female president, my guess is she would be in the same mold as Thatcher...and she would likely be republican. I think Condy would get elected before Hillary.

Many states (perhaps most - I'm not sure?) have voted during some or the other for a female senator or governor. So maybe the nation would consider it. I don't necessarily see Hillary as the one. She's a very polarizing figure and while we know the opposite is true, many think she is some sort of far left liberal. Her entire campaign would be about distancing herself from Democratic values and discussing a history of baggage (I am not interested in hearing about Clinton and his marital infidelity again and we know that will come up). The hatred she faces from the right is very potent and venemous. I think there are some that don't realize the kind of smear campaign she will face. That and I don't see any great appeal to her. I sense no convictions and when I see her speak, I see a competant and intelligent speaker, but I feel a sense of pandering and insincerety you see in 'typical politicians'. Her speaking style is very stilted, unnatural, and droning. And I am tired of her pandering over meaningless issues like video game violence and flag burning. These are the kind of issues you literally use to pander to 'security moms' (or whatever other such bullshit segmenting terms the pundits will use in '08) and the right will latch on to them as such. In the end, the stunt she is now performing will not work. It will simply drive away the base and the support from moderates and conservatives will never materialize.

I don't see her beating the media darling 'independant maverick' McCain, or the good 'ole boy charm of George Allen (yuck the thought of him becoming president is revolting) or the like.
