New wave of troops set for Iraq

WASHINGTON - The first of up to 20,000 additional U.S. troops will move into Iraq by month's end under President Bush's new war plan, a senior defense official said Tuesday. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pledged to hold a vote on the increase, which many Democrats oppose.

The president met during the day with lawmakers, practiced his speech and briefed key foreign allies, including calls to the leaders of Britain, Australia and Denmark. Bush was expected to practice his speech a couple of more times before addressing the nation at 9 p.m. EST Wednesday from the White House Library.

Under Bush's plan, thousands of troops will be alerted that they may be needed in Iraq — including units already there whose service would be extended, or others that could be sent earlier than initially scheduled, said one official.

Moving first into Iraq would be the 2nd Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, which is now in Kuwait and poised to head quickly into the country, the defense official said. The brigade, numbering about 3,500 troops, is based at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Other units, including Marine brigades in western Iraq, could be asked to extend their deployment. And the military buildup is also likely to include moving the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis into the Persian Gulf region, as a show of force and a warning to Iran and Syria.

Furthermore, a man who believes what he says doesn't need to practice saying it. Only lies require that much rehearsal. The truth falls trippingly off the tongue. Dissembling is hard work.

2. The W family are arrogant elitists
Edited on Wed Jan-10-07 01:22 AM by Erika
As Rummy said, the military is a good way for the "po" families to have their children educated, if they survive. W and his ilk don't worry about such things. They are the uppercrest. War is for the po folks. They'll just sit there and "command" the po folks fighting the war.

I am so ashamed so many voted for this elitist.

3. Arrogant with no basis for it.
They lack talent, intelligence, creativity, ethics. All they have is a high regard for themselves, and an ability to pick other people's pockets.

6. I really don't get the resentment
Maybe they're elitist assholes, maybe they're not. They generally seem to be pretty private with their lives. Sending the girls to Iraq because their daddy is the ring leader just don't add up, though, and it sure makes us look like assholes.

8. Their daddy sent thousands of troops to Iraq in his war
Why is it too much to expect them to join? They don't need money for education? Is that their reason for not going in? Or are they like Cheney in Vietnam, who said they had more important things to do with their lives?

What is it?

10. The little one sticking out her tongue in the limo
showed utter arrogance. Some would say a spoiled brat who had every intent on remaining one.

Ever see Chelsea or Amy showing such a lack of class?

12. question for BlueStateModerate
Sending the girls to Iraq because their daddy is the ring leader just don't add up, though, and it sure makes us look like assholes.

Why does it make "us" look like assholes? If one of Diana's sons can go over there, why not Jenna and Barbara? Aren't leaders and their families supposed to be shining examples? Why is this "leader" and his daughters exempt?

That is not a rhetorical question. I really want to know why you think they're excluded.

13. Well, their daddy says the war Casey Sheehan died in is "a noble cause"
That being the case, there's a lot of us here who wonder why The Twins and other spawn of the warmongering class are not enlisted and doing their part to defend our freedoms. The British Royals always manage to send a son or two into whatever the hot spot of the day is.

Nothing personal.

15. They are not private when they're prancing around the country to get their dad elected
They are not private when they're appearing onstage at the RNC, traveling on Air Force One, enjoying the spoils of their Daddy's power. If they believe in his central argument, the "war on terror," they need to step up and fight it.

They're already on the federal payroll doing propaganda work. Time for them to pick up a rifle and do some real work.

16. Yep, to help with Dimson's** 'just and noble cause'. They need to
encourage all of those young repugs who helped during the '04 campaign to go with them! Perhaps we should explain to the little chickenshits that the 'culture war' they're always using as an excuse for not signing up is in Iraq. I'm sure they would be enlisting in droves then!
