Wes Clark is hoppin' mad and sounding alarms again in Washington
From Huffpo:

D.C. Notes: Wes Clark is Steamed

Clark was really angry about what he'd read in this column by UPI Editor at Large Arnaud de Borchgrave. In the piece, which Clark quickly forwarded to my BlackBerry from his Trio, de Borchgrave details Bibi Netanyahu leading the charge to lobby the Bush administration to take out Iran's nuclear facilities, and paints U.S. air strikes against Iran in 2007/08 as all-but-a-done deal.

"How can you talk about bombing a country when you won't even talk to them?" said Clark. "It's outrageous. We're the United States of America; we don't do that. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the military option is off the table -- but diplomacy is not what Jim Baker says it is. It's not, What will it take for you boys to support us on Iraq? It's sitting down for a couple of days and talking about our families and our hopes, and building relationships."
When we asked him what made him so sure the Bush administration was headed in this direction, he replied: "You just have to read what's in the Israeli press. The Jewish community is divided but there is so much pressure being channeled from the New York money people to the office seekers."

At one point Melinda reminded him that she was taking down everything he said (a fact that would have been hard to miss, since she was taking notes on a not-inconspicuous legal pad). His response: 'Yes, I know." For Clark, this is the biggest foreign policy issue facing the U.S. "I'm worried about the surge," he said. "But I'm worried about this even more."

1. If we won't do what bush wants he will put us in a situation
where we will have to go along. If he wants war with Iran, he can call in air attacks and not tell us until it is too late to stop him.

We won't give up our social programs so he is draining the treasury so we can't afford them.

We were unwilling give up our constitution so he scares us into accepting his dictatorial rule.

3. You're absolutely correct
Bush's favorite tactic is to back politicians into a corner so they have no choice but comply with his way....

I disagree only to the extent that he will order the bombing first and then ask for permission....it won't be that obvious...it will be political and the groundwork for it is being laid even as we debate it.I'm not sure how he will implement it, but I can guarantee you that it's in progress.....

8. I'm not sure people would believe him. A sneak attack
is the only way he can do it. He probably thinks the war powers act gives him permission.

9. I wonder what this means...
"The Jewish community is divided but there is so much pressure being channeled from the New York money people to the office seekers."

Is anybody familiar with what is going on in Israel?

10. well, there was an oped posted on DU yesterday
That made my hair stand on end...and according to the guy who wrote it...some feel that IF the US can't be persuaded or pressured into doing Iran...Then Israel must...since we seem to care a lot about what that one country thinks and feels...even over what our own people want...I think it's pretty cut and dried...I don't blame Gen. Clark for being pissed...

here is a tiny url to the oped...by Oded Tira a Ret.Brig.General..of the IDF
A real eye opener for me...
