The war WILL NOT patiently wait to produce more dead while congress
Edited on Thu Jan-04-07 10:13 AM by NoSheep
tries to decide if it will agree with the fascist decider or not. Why should we, or Cindy in this case, patiently wait while others are dying? I don't think it is an extreme thing to demand this issue take highest priority. And I don't think agreeing with Cindy on this PROVES that anyone who does has blind allegiance to her points of view and the way she behaves. I take those deaths very seriously...and here I sit on my ass at work to make sure my mortgage is paid. Cindy is putting herself out there for me, for you and for those who are dying as we type. She's doing it so I don't have to. For that I thank her.

It is possible there will be negative repercussions, but many feel the cause is worth it. Just as have been many other causes that have liberated the meek from tyranny. And by the meek, I mean those who don't make the life or death decisions as to whether they participate in an unjust war or not. Those who are made to go because they are part of the armed forces.

If you didn't take the time to think about this, please don't flame me. You may not agree with what she did. I'm just saying why I do. It's that important. We really should all be in the streets demanding this thing stop. That's how I feel about it, and I feel guilty that I'm not. That I'm choosing to let her fight the battle for me. I marched with her in DC but then I came back home. I would do exactly what she is doing until the senseless killing stops.

This society is mentally ill. Extreme measures are being taken to combat that. It stands to reason.

4. I didn't realize I was. Cindy interrupted a congressperson who could
have been using that his TV face time to call for an end to the war. Perhaps my wording suggests something I didn't intend. :(

5. And the Dems should have been screaming (literally) bloody murder
ever since he started it, only a large percentage of them either stupidly or cynically ("Got to appeal to the bloodthirsty yahoos in my district, you know") voted for the IWR, so they were effectively co-opted.

"We're not in charge" may be an excuse for lack of achievement. It's not an excuse for silent complicity.

6. Dems could have done some shit too
Like voting against the IWR, refusing to fund the war, coming out strongly against the war, etc. etc. Yet instead they have continued their political triangulation, not wishing to risk their political lives in order to save hundreds of thousands of real lives. And now that they're in power, what indication have we seen that they're going to stop this war? None whatsoever. Nothing about it in the 100 hour plan, impeachment is off the table, no strong statements, in fact no statements at all about ending the war. Instead Bush is left to dominate the discourse on the war with his brilliant "surge" plan.

The time for this illegal, immoral war to end is NOW. This is what the voters were saying back in Novemember, and all of these freshly minted Congresscritters had better damn well listen. Defund the war, stop it cold, and bring the troops home. There is no other option at this point, for any other option continues the bloodshed.

Sheehan is the conscience of the nation when it comes to the war, and like most consciences, she makes people uncomfortable, especially when she urges them to do what they know is the right thing. Thus, she makes the Democrats uncomfortable, for they know deep down that the only right and moral thing to do is to end the war now. Yet they still continue to dither and triangulate and play politics with an issue that cost people their lives on a day by day, hour by hour basis. Cindy is just doing the job of any good conscience, prodding people to do what is right, no matter their political affiliation. And for that I applaud her.
