I need help answering this pile of excrement...
Edited on Wed Jan-03-07 05:51 PM by Lost-in-FL
And I need your help for a response. This one I am answering back...

Weather Bulletin - DENVER

Forward:
WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here, in the "Mile-Hi City", we just recovered from a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.

FYI:

George Bush did not come.

FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletive on TV.

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards. Nobody demanded a free bus ride to Florida. Nobody has demanded an extra square on their tax returns, either.

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.

No one looted.

Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.

No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.

No Sean Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.

Nope, we just melted the snow for water.

Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny.

Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families.

Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.

We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sitting at home' checks.

Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

"In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate."

It does seem that way, at least to me.

I hope you all will think clearly about this.

Come to think of it....after four hurricanes and a tropical storm hit Florida in 2004, there was never any of this government begging that occurred after Katrina!

Maybe SOME people will get the message. The world does Not owe you a living. If you cannot afford to live with the potential negatives that living near water or coastal areas may bring......MOVE! *If you don't like lava.....move away from the damn volcano!

6. They are, both in Colorado and here in NM
They're dropping MREs at ranch houses and hay to stranded cattle via blackhawk helicopter, it's a big deal on local news.

This has been debunked so many times it's ridiculous. It seems it pops up here at least once a week.

The author will be viewed as an idiot. Bush didnt show up because he doesnt know where the mile hi city is, FEMA didnt show up because they werent aware of a snowstorm.

then we might have a valid comparison between Denver and New Orleans after Katrina.

20. If it snowed so much that it caused all of the homes
in Denver to collapse (or even 20 percent) and be uninhabitable, and no one could get to an evacuation center, and the ones that could were left without food or water for a week, I wonder how these tough self reliant Coloradans would feel then about the federal response? As someone that lived in Denver for 7 years, I can tell you... the same as the people in New Orleans.

Maybe even worse.

I grew up in the midwest on a farm. I can remember numerous times when our farm was without power, water, and heating oil (because everything ran on electricity). For a solid week my family would huddle in the living room, warming ourselves by the fire, melting snow for water and eating only what we had in the pantry. No snow plows, no helicopter drops, no phone service, only an occasional visit by a neighbor (or to a neighbor) using snow shoes to check that everyone was OK. It wasn't that big a deal. It was sort of an adventure, not a real hardship. A medical emergency would have been different, and made our isolation more problematic, but fortunately that never happened.

We did NOT face what these people in New Orleans faced. No way. We had everything we needed to wait out the storm and to wait for local resources to respond (for the county snow plow to eventually make its way to our neck of the woods).

5. this came around using a north dakota blizzard a year back...
...it is ridiculous....and racist
...first of all, the number of people stranded in a blizzard is ALWAYS miniscule compared to the half-million or so affected by Katrina.
...you can climb over a six-foot snowdrift....a storm surge of six feet can kill you.
...if there had been a quarter million displaced or stranded in Colorado you can believe every level of government would face demands to get going....not the least consideration being that the majority of victims would be white...

there's more but that's a start...

19. North Dakota has approx. 1 person per square mile....
OK, I exaggerate a little, but I was born in North Dakota and there is simply no similarity in expectations and ability to prepare for and survive between a high plains snow storm and a violent coastal flood in a city. But you guys all know that already, and you weren't even born in North Dakota. The depths of nastiness and narrowness to which some people are able to sink never ceases to amaze me. Does anybody know what turd wrote the original of this nonsense? Or is it simply a right-wing classic, copied by like-minded idiots so many times that its birth is shrouded in mystery? Cheesh!

15. In New Orleans the Levees were breached.
What would be equivalent? 20 feet of snow that didn't melt for six months? A windstorm violent enough to blow away entire neighborhoods? Blizzards happen every year and people know how to prepare for them. And in most cases nobody loses their homes. I hope someday a meteor lands smack dab on the author's house. I'd go for a plane crashing into it, but that would affect innocent people.

This man (I'm assuming) is absolutely right. And it's high time the rest of us wussies wake up to the fact that it was upon the strong and self-reliant backs of hardy pioneer folk such as this man, that this great nation was built. And it will continue in it's greatness despite our ceaseless whining and demands for somebody else to always do the things we should be doing for ourselves.

Any of you sissies ever hear anything about picking yourself up by your bootstraps? Huh?

Yes, I'm trying to be sarcastic. What classic right wing drivel! And I'll have to admit, I haven't got the slightest idea how one goes about picking himself up by the bootstraps. Doesn't that violate a law of physics or something?

39. I live in Denver, and here's what I would say:
Yeah, we got hit by a big blizzard - it was all over CNN. I'll bet even Dumbass Bush knew about it while it was happening, rather than two days later because some 23-year old pimple faced staffer shoved a DVD player in front of his moronic face.

And today, the blizzard is gone. Some snow left on the streets. My house is still here. My job is still here. My car is still here. All my family is still here. Hell, even my dogs are still here.

To compare this to the disaster of Katrina is utterly ludicrous. We lost nothing in comparison to what the southern coast lost. We didn't even lose our electricity! Our damage is not irreparable, as much of theirs is. And we weren't abandoned and left to drown and die like they were. Even our cows are having hay airlifted to them.

Was it because I lifted myself up by my bootstraps and solved all my own problems? No. There wasn't anything I could do about it. I, like everyone else in town, waited until the plows came through and then shoveled my way out of the garage. But what if no plows had come? What if the power had been lost and there had been no heat? We'd have been screaming for help just like everyone else. And rightly so.

The world may not owe me a living. But as humans - particularly if you claim to be a Christian - we owe it to our neighbors to lend a hand.

That is, unless you're black and poor.

41. In Denver, the power stayed on
In Denver, the phone system worked, and the Internet was still operational.

In Denver, the bridges, roads, power lines, sewer and water mains and traffic signals remained operational after the snow arrived.

In Denver, hospitals had power and heat throughout the emergency.

In Denver, food shipments continued to arrive, and even the airport wasn't down for more than a couple of days.

In Denver, people weren't dying as snow filled their homes so that they froze to death, and people didn't have their homes swept away by gigantic walls of snow flowing from defective, collapsing snow fences.

In Denver, people weren't forbidden to move from one neighborhood to the next by police with drawn guns.

To name but a few points of rebuttal.

60. Ask the idiot if he's living in 12 feet of water
No, he's sitting inside, nice and dry. I grew up in Northern NH and we had weather like that all the time. There's nothing Biblical about it. This same idiocy was circulated about N. Dakota last year. It makes even less sense now.
