How many times have you heard some republic say that? When we note that 3000 soldiers have died for the republics, some will say that, 'heck, that's a low number when you compare it to how many died in ww 2', or, 'we lost 58,000 in Nam, quitcher belly achin'.

Or the chilling, 'you gotta break eggs to make an omelet'. Or, 'we can't go all wobbly just because 3000 have died', and various other variations on the theme.

O.k. then, what is the magic number of dead soldiers that everyone can agree on? Have you got a figure? Dumbfucks.

One is too many, 3000 is a sickening atrocity, and to them, these are 'just numbers'.

Have you ever attended the funeral of a 'number'? Ever seen a mother's grief over losing one of those numbers? Heartless, brainless dumbfucks.

1. Ask them why we fought in Vietnam in the first place?

Correct me if I am wrong.

As I've been told by a Vietnam vet, the US interceded in Vietnam to help save the Southern portion from being taken over by the North.

The North was Communist.

The North was also financed by China.

We fought in Vietnam to stop the spread of Communism.

And we ultimately lost and allowed the North to take over the South and the entire nation became a Communist state.

And that's what I was told.

Bit of a pity, that... Assuming countries' mindsets never change, I doubt many Vietnam vets today would be happy over China's development OR Bush's little visit to Vietnam. But what would I know?

Now the good news is, and correct me if I am wrong on this, China has been helping its own people; 1/3rd its population no longer lives in poverty (that's 400 million people). I think they see how Communism is wrong; before now the bulk of their people lived pretty poorly.

I do not get it when they put it up as how many die in cars either. Apples and oranges for sure.

6. It is easy to say this as long as it is not your son or daughter.

The analogy that I use is as follows. If 200 people were murdered in my city last year, would I be willing to sacrifice 200 police to catch the killers? The Vietnam was was a waste and so is Iraq.

7. Many don't seem to take into consideration that some amazing medical improvements...

both on the ground & in the hospital, have contributed greatly to the physical survival rate of those who would have been thought of as mortally wounded in past wars.

This means however that although we have a lower amount of deaths, we have a higher incidence of soldiers who are left to live with permanent and often crippling/disfiguring injuries they would have died from in Vietnam and before that WWII... WWI.. etc... not to mention the psychological scars. :(

One case in point: There was a story recently on the local news about a downstate soldier who is going through major re-constructive surgery, after a bomb went off near the truck he was in, to replace quite a lot of his face. He also now has very limited vision as well. The show brought up how the injuries he received in Iraq were severe enough that he would have almost certainly have died back in Vietnam and WWII.

These numbers also don't include all the other casualties that are not on the list for various reasons, like those that make it home only to kill themselves (and sometimes loved ones) or have themselves killed as in a recent case.
