Whoopsie! RW blogs and the Kerry photo that wasn't (LOL)
http://www.crooksandliars.com/2006/12/28/a-shoot-and-a-miss-for-right-wing-blogs/

Steve from The Carpetbagger Report catches the righties in full "Kerry Derangement Syndrome" swing. They love to keep pushing that "Kerry hates the troops and the troops hate Kerry" meme, even when they have to make up events to prove it.

(S)everal of the right's major blogs yesterday were all aflutter over a picture of John Kerry, in Iraq a couple of weeks ago, apparently sitting alone at a mess hall. The picture, as the story went, proves that Kerry's "botched joke" has caused lingering resentment among men and women in uniform. If the troops respected Kerry, he wouldn't have been sitting by himself at the breakfast shown in the photo.

The photo, and the accompanying narrative about how the troops avoided Kerry, made the rounds by way of far-right radio-host Scott Hennen, who claims the "priceless story" was sent by "a friend of mine serving in Iraq." (If Hennen's name sounds familiar, it's because he has an interesting history with the White House.)<---- Hennan is the guy who asked Cheney about waterboarding and Dick gave his infamous "no brainer" response.

At Hennen's site, commenter "Anthony" noted that the picture's embedded data, just a right-click away, shows the picture was taken on January 9, 2006 - several months before Kerry botched his joke….

1. The R.W. media is clearly scared of Kerry and that's why they make stuff up
Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 09:05 AM by ray of light
This inspires me to think that Kerry must be doing something really good for us (or will be doing something really good for us) since in the Orwellian game of media crap--Mr. Straighttalk is McCain-- and Mr. Christian is Bush... And Mr. Shoot from the Hip is Cheney...oh ummmmmm...

2. Another attempt by the RW to take out and discredit Sen. Kerry who's has more credible and i
and more respected ideas on how to conduct this war and bring our soldiers home. Sen. Kerry has been a very strong voice opposing this administration policies and obviously, the Bush administration doesn't like being called out for their major mistakes.

28. but it's not
it's not been proven to be a lie.

The other picture posted above shows Kerry in Iraq in mid december wearing the exact same shirt. Couldn't the calendar merely just be wrong on the phone?

More importantly, who knows under what situation the photo was taken? Just because he appears alone at that point in time doesn't mean he was being shunned by the military.

But I think it looks like that photo is authentic (though I'm no photoshopper so I guess that's a possibility too)

11. like like it's probably real
Of course, the picture may not be portraying what they RWs are trying to convey (that soldiers hate Kerry), but it looks to be a valid picture.

I've seen another picture from when he was there in mid December of this year that shows him wearing the exact same shirt.

I've seen another picture of an Iraqi mess hall that had the Union Jack (b/c they also had the coalition flag), and much of the furniture if the same.

14. .
To repeat the points from other threads:
- I can see only one soldier
- British and Portuguese flag
- I suppose soldiers usually don't get served by waiters

Besides, I'm wondering what Kerry has done to be hated so much by the right. Some nuts are so crazy about him calling him a traitor because of Vietnam and so on. It's irrational, I don't get it.

20. That one is from the US embassy...
It's not too far fetched that there would be flowers. Look closely.
The "waiters" are all decked out too. Lots of empty seats.

My guess is that not too many troops are invited to dine there.
Typical RW BS.

Why are we all subjected to their continual shrill braying of lies and smears? Their rantings and ramblings can best be described as delusional utterances of the unhinged. These loudmouth imbeciles give me a giant headeache with their assholery.

36. Here's the Real Deal on that pesky photo, straight from one who was there
(These remarks are from Frank Lowenstein -- Frank accompanied Sen. Kerry to the Middle East, serves on Sen. Kerry’s Senate staff, and is a longtime Kerry national security advisor. Full text is at the link below...)

http://blog.johnkerry.com/2006/12/setting_the_record_straight_fr.html

It’s a weird feeling seeing this photo of Sen. Kerry debated and decoded like some artifact out of the DaVinci Codes. It’s strange to me because I was there when the photo was taken. I traveled with Sen. Kerry throughout his Middle East trip. I’m his foreign policy staffer. Myself and Major McKnight were sitting right there when this photo was snapped.

Snubbed? Alone? Hardly. Sen. Kerry isn’t eating alone. In fact that photo is at an off the record breakfast meeting Senator Kerry conducted early Sunday morning with the very real Marc Santora of the New York Times Baghdad bureau and his younger colleague from the newspaper.

The man shown in the green shirt across from Sen. Kerry is Marc Santora. Right after that interview was completed, Senator Kerry videotaped a message expressing his and the country's support for the troops, to be shown on the armed services network in Iraq. Just the night before, Sen. Kerry was in that very same mess hall at a table where he ate dinner with about 10 U.S. soldiers.
