Bush has made his decision on Iraq!
My daughter's boyfriend has been given orders that he will be shipping out in January to Iraq. Bush is going to boost troop levels by as many as 40,000 troops in an effort to save face. The guy is desperate to not be remembered as a failure as President. I have news for him...

ITS TOO LATE!

13. That would be political suicide
If the Dem's cut off funding, the GOP would use it in 2008 as the Dems are soft and did not support our troops.

I cannot believe this man was elected twice. He walks like he has a horseshoe up his ars.

16. I disagree.
The Republicans have been in control of this war the whole way, and the people understand that the situation is pretty hopeless. They have a lot better access to information than they did back during the Vietnam days, and so, they have a lot better understanding of what has happened and how they were misled. If there is any backlash on the Democrats for asserting themselves, it won't happen until the full effects of the policy is felt which would be after 2008. I think it would be immoral to send more troops to Iraq to be killed in a senseless strategy for political reasons.

20. At the very least they can designate the use of approved funding
from what I've heard recently. That may be a better way to go for now.

7. I have a friend
That is supposed to be going back to Iraq in 2008. ??? I don't see how that makes sense, but that's what a mutual friend said. This friend of mine is also going insane from what Iraq has done to him. He though a friend of ours was FBI or something. He has these episodes all the time I guess.

17. Having an enquiring mind,
I want to know how many more mercenaries and support contractors are going to be sent there too.

100,000 contractors are already there, and that doesn't count the sub-contractors. I think it would be wise to know that.

18. Agreed. And Jimmy52, Welcome to DU!
But that's a great comment - it's all about his saving face and his precious fucking legacy. Ironically, the more troops he sends to that meatgrinder so he can stay looking tough and resolute add to the historically horrid legacy he'll be saddled with, forever.
