Grassley and Gregg are standing up there and saying that people can take their tax cuts and pay for their own health insurance, and we shouldn't take money from working Americans to, uhm, er, pay for a government medical program (obviously for those who don't work).

This is Durbin's health insurance for children amendment, which sounds exactly like Kerry's Kids First Act. My question, what are the 50% of Americans who got no tax cut supposed to do about health insurance???

1. Correct me if I am wrong, but do not these Congress critters benefit

from government sponsored health care courtesy of the same taxpayers whom they diss? :grr: And all Americans pay taxes in one form or another. And why shouldn't we help those Americans who are unfortunate enough not to have a job, especially during and directly because of republican leadership or lack thereof? Everyone deserves the basic human rights of health care and shelter and food! I hate republicans!

2. Kids First is for working families

It picks up the gap of the rest of the kids who are uninsured who would be from working families because we've already got most of them through either Medicaid or the current SCHIP. I agree with what you're saying, just wanted to add that. They know the kids who aren't currently covered come from working families but they prefer to distort and divide.

period. And I apologize for not reading the rest of your post. It's a sticking point for me that Congress won't allow the same health care plan they make us pay for them, for the rest of Americans! After kids are born, they are of no interest to republicans, if that isn't apparent to every American, I don't know what is?

How stupid is that. They argued against any benefits for the working poor because "they don't pay taxes anyway". And then tell the same people to use their tax cuts to pay for health insurance that is through the roof. Fucking idiots.
