Jeb laments loss of bath towel service
TALLAHASSEE -- Before spending his last night in the Governor's Mansion, Gov. Jeb Bush confided Thursday what he really likes about the place -- including unlimited fresh towels.

After a ceremony opening a new library at the mansion and accepting his official portrait, which will hang on the Capitol's first floor, the governor ran into probably his final gaggle with Capitol reporters as he returned to work. Among other things, he was asked what he will miss most when Gov.-elect Charlie Crist moves in.

"What am I going to miss about the mansion? It's beauty, its tradition, the food," said Bush. "The hot water -- the water pressure in the hot water is unbelievable. I told Charlie to be careful; I don't know how it is in St. Pete but in Miami, the water doesn't come on that fast and doesn't come on immediately hot."

One other domestic touch, Bush said, is "fresh towels, all you want," like staying in a hotel.

"I don't know how it is in your life but it's -- most of the time, you know, most people take showers and you use towels six or seven times," he said, "but here, although I've been trained to do otherwise, any time I want, I can have a new towel."

He says nothing about any important legislation he signed or any good economic plans or improvements to schools or any of the other jillion things a governor does. Didn't he serve two terms? And all he can think about are fucking towels??

This family just makes me ill. :puke:

Hey, I'm squeaky clean when I emerge from the shower... so what's gonna soil the towel?

Mildew might be an issue for some climates, but not in these parts. My bath towels see duty for a week or more before they're laundered - saves me money and it's the environmentally conscious thing to do, too.

Edited on Sat Dec-23-06 11:06 PM by Viva_La_Revolution
We each have our own towels. Mine are green, one boy uses his Army towels, his brothers each have their favorites. :)

on edit: We live in Oregon now so we do have to wash them more often (in AZ they would dry in minutes).

What a waste of energy, to wash still clean towels (I don't know about you, but I'm clean when I step from the shower), not to mention how fast the towels would wear out.

I have fresh towels at home and use a clean one after each shower. I've never used a towel six or seven times. What an idiot if he thinks most people do that. I'm sure some do but I wouldn't say most.

42. Why? Because I prefer it that way.
No, my towel isn't dirty from drying off my clean body. It just doesn't have that freshly laundered smell that I prefer. If I'm a guest somewhere & they provide me with a towel to use for 3 days, then I do it. When I'm home, where I do the laundry, I use a fresh towel every time I shower.

43. I don't since it takes a lot of electricity to wash and dry.
And they don't wear out so fast either. I could wash in cold water by hand and dry by woodstove and this wouldn't take electricity I guess, but too much work. Sometimes I hang it to dry by the stove or outside on sunny days. Line drying doesn't make it fluffy, but then again it lasts longer rather than ending up in the lint trap in dryer.

If you want to use a new one every day, that is your choice and go for it. I chose to not for varied reasons and my main complaint is to people saying Jeb Bush is out of touch with the serfs because he said what he did. He's out of touch for other reasons, but using towels over and over is done often also.

44. You're right, it's all about choice
I don't use much electricity so doing laundry doesn't make that much difference. Plus I tire of my towels before they ever wear out. I love linens so I splurge on them.
Before I sound like a complete snob, it's a trade off. I do conserve elsewhere. I seldom drive, I walk or ride the bus 90% of the time. I recycle so I throw away very little.

This just struck me as an odd thing for Jeb to be commenting on.

...asking people to not use more than they really needed.
Also encouraged you to have the bed just made rather than fresh sheets every time.
Reasons given were laundry cost, water, environmental issues.

Wasn't a low-end, no-frills cheap place, and it had a pool...but was in Oregon, which probably explains a lot of the environmental sensitivity.

He's finished as a politician and he knows it. He was quoted the other day as saying as much.

The one good thing W has done is help expose the BFEE (unintentionally of course) including Jeb, as a pack of traitors and worthless cowards and sluts.

Not even Jeb's son will have a political career, unless he loudly denounces poppy and W. Which ain't gonna happen.
