I always cringe when I hear someone refer to America's addiction to oil. People just have to use it because the fossil fuel interests know how to kill alternatives. The recent tax on hybrids is an example of how we punish the development of fuel-efficiency. It's similar to what GM did to mass transit in the 40's and how duPont got hemp illegalized in the 30's to keep it out of the competition for its wood-pulp paper making business.
Bush talking about reducing our dependence on foreign oil is like the Medellin drug cartel talking about the need for drug treatment. What pisses me off even more is how the Press religiously avoids the obvious conflict of interest with a President whose family built their empire on oil, and a VP who headed oil-construction giant Halliburton that has seen its stock soar in value in the past couple of years, due in a large measure to its contracts in Iraq. Nothing will be done to decrease our dependency on foreign oil by this adminstration; Bush will just do what he always does: talk about it for PR purposes then do nothing. As the movie Farhenheit 911 showed the Bush Empire and the Saudis are long time business partners in their bid for world domination. The book "House of Bush, House of Saud" has a great picture on the cover showing GW Bush gripping a Saudi Elite's hand.
IMO Saudi Arabia is a breeding ground for CIA controlled terrorism as well as a clearing house for laundered money and financing terrorist operations. Of course this is still an undiscussable topic in the MSM. Like the fact that 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 are Saudi.
