So Goode's letter was sent by mistake, huh?
Yesterday, we had quite a bit here on DU about Virgil Goode's letter. I didn't hear a word about this on the TV yesterday...I must've missed it.

AP's piece (posted at 10:14 last night) reports it was sent to Cruickshank "by mistake". But, even sent "by mistake" he's not apologizing.

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/E/ELLISON_QURAN?SITE=FLTAM&SECTION=POLITICS
(end of piece)
"Representative Goode's Islamophobic remarks send a message of intolerance that is unworthy of anyone elected to public office," CAIR's national legislative director, Corey Saylor, said Tuesday night. "There can be no reasonable defense for such bigotry."

Goode spokesman Linwood Duncan said Wednesday that no apology was forthcoming.

"The only statement the congressman has is that he stands by the letter," Duncan said.

The letter was made public by John Cruickshank, the chairman of the Piedmont group of the Sierra Club in central Virginia, who had received it after writing to Goode about environmental issues. Duncan said that Goode's office had sent the letter to Cruickshank by mistake.

1. So he's a racist and he's senile....
damn me if he's not taking a page right out of Felix Macacawitz's school of making an ass out of yourself.

4. Was there coverage about it on your local news?
The guy's either a known whacko or ...Oh, I get it. A serving (R) Congressman's bigoted opinions just doesn't amount to a hill of beans compared to "Will Hillary Run?", "Will Obama Announce", and "Sandy Berger tore up documents".

So much 'news' and so little time! :sarcasm:

10. No, not a peep, however I'm not in his District...
I saw a small blurb about it in the Washington Post. You're right though, it's not getting the attention it deserves. It's outrageous for a U.S. Congressman to be publicly making these types of statements.

Muslim group seeks apology from Virginia congressman
Republican Rep. Virgil Goode said more Americans will follow Minnesota's lead and elect Muslims unless immigration laws are tightened.
By Rob Hotakainen, Star Tribune Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON -- A Muslim group is asking Virginia Republican Rep. Virgil Goode to apologize after he told hundreds of his constituents that more Americans will follow the lead of Minnesota voters and send more Muslims to Congress if strict immigration laws are not passed.

There was a little blurb about it on my morning TV news, but not much.

11. Republics certainly seem terrified of Ellison
First, we have Glen Beck asking Ellison to prove he's not working with the enemy...

Then, Dennis Prager goes ballistic that he's going to use the Koran for his photo-op swearing in ceremony (the real ceremony involves no books)

And now this letter from Goode.

Now, if I hosted my own radio show, would I be out of line to ask each white male Republican guest if he was in league with Timothy McVeigh or David Koresh?

13. As a constituent I called Goode today - 202- 225-4711
I stated that I would prefer he have the Constitution and Bill of Rights on his wall. Asked if he was familiar with the separation of church and state. Said that I was horrified by his slur against another major religion and wondered if Mr. Goode felt he had the right to "pick and choose" WHO he would represent. Did he feel free not to represent ALL non-Christians in his district, or merely Muslims? What about Jews? Buddhists? Atheists? Agnostics? Does he represent them, or does he only represent Christians? And does he represent ALL Christian groups equally? Are Catholics up there with the Baptists? Or does one need to be born twice to be considered Christian in his view?
Told his office that I wanted a reply.

If you want to call and voice your opinion his number is 202- 225-4711
