George Washington's Parish makes official its bigotry...

One of the parishes in Virginia that has decided to unaffiliate itself from the Episcopal Church of the USA and align itself with a Nigerian Bishop who advocates incarcerating homosexuals, is the Truro Parish in Fairfax County, Virginia.

George Washington was a vestryman in the Truro Parish in the 1760's as was George Mason. That this church has chosen to dishonor these men by advocating the discrimination, and incarceration of its fellow citizens based solely upon a genetic characteristic is just astounding.

I realize someone is going to bring up slavery. A close inspection of Washington's views on slavery will reveal a steady growth process, at the end of which Washington had become an opponent of slavery, recognized blacks as having the same intellectual potential as anyone else, and ultimately freed his slaves upon his death, providing for them monetarily.

I do not believe Washington would have been in favor of this type of gratuitious action with the sole purpose of denigrating fellow citizens.

My sense is that both Washington and Mason are rolling in their graves!

George Mason btw was the author of the Virginia Declaration of Rights...ironic eh?

No we just woke up one day and said you know....I think I'll be gay so the world can hate me, our parents (not mine, I am lucky) can turn their backs on us, we can get fired for simply being gay, we can join the military but we have to pretend we are straight, in many states we can't visit our partners in the hospital, and the list goes on.....

Why would anyone choose to be gay?

We are who we are.....what's to choose? How many stories have you read about men and women who married because of fear and loathing only to acknowledge who they are 20 years down the road?

3. society sucks, but genetic? and choice is too shallow a word for it.

My concern with calling homosexuality genetic is that is that I believe this implies the genetic manipulation or "treatment" can be used to modify people in to being super-straight. Imagine a whole new population that only has sex standing up with their socks on under the watchful eye of trained psychiatrists! ha.. I just think calling something as important as sexuality a genetic byproduct is not giving enough credit to consciousness or "self."

Because if there is a possibility of manipulation of genes someone will do it....

But that leads to my next question, is "self" or "consciousness" genetic? A giving person who gives the shirt off of their back, or someone that is a bully whose family members were bullies....random thoughts....

I am afraid that what's gotten us into this mess is letting a small group of people the Neocons define who American citizens are and what they are worth to society....We have to take back terminology and own it...sexuality is sexuality...let's uncloud the conversation ourselves..

Can't wait to see them follow all of "God's" laws, including some of those that require the perpetrators to be stoned to death!

If their so key on following "God's" laws, then they need to follow all of them, not just the one
that covers their bigotry.
