A website for all you worried about your finances. Some great calculation tools.
www.fincalc.com
When you open the page, scroll down and look on the left hand side for "Advisorcalcs". Click that link. The page that opens will give you a number of different calculators where you can punch in a given set of data and get a result. Lets say you want to know the amount in your current 401(K) will grow to, for instance. Click on the link under "Taxation" that says "Comparable Taxable, Tax deferred and Tax Free growth". Type in the amount of your savings, the number of years to retirement and an estimated rate of return. 8% is easily attainable in a properly allocated account. Adjust the other parameters to suit your situation like tax bracket, etc. Put in the number of years and hit the calculate button.

Many threads of late have lamented how bad the economy has been. Truly, it isn't that bad and while i understand that many of us are struggling, when pressed, damn few people will admit they can not come up with even a single dollar a day to put away. Here is what a single dollar a day, compounded over 20 years at 8 % comes to;

$16,708

when placed in a tax deferred account like an IRA. THATS WHAT HAPPENS TO A BUCK A DAY. 7300 days is 20 years. $7300 turning into almost seventeen grand is significant growth.

Please, Please DU'rs...Use the resources available to you and plan for the future. Seek professional advice. For those of you that are on hard times, you have my sympathy and understanding. I've been there, trust me. I've been homeless, so broke i needed a co-signor to pay cash and close to suicide from despair. But things turn around. Use your intellect to find ways to recover. It can happen.
