Student Sues District Over Sexual Discrimination

(CBS) SANTA ANA A lawyer for a gay, former Santiago High student who sued the Garden Grove Unified School District, alleging her principal "outed" her, asked a judge Tuesday for as much as $1.3 million in damages.

In his closing argument, Dan Stormer said the privacy rights of Charlene Nguon, now 18 and a community college student, were violated when Ben Wolf, the school principal at the time, told Nguon's mother she was gay.

The junior was subject to unequal treatment when disciplined for hugging and kissing her girlfriend when similar conduct by heterosexuals was ignored, Stormer said.

Discipline ranged from warnings, Saturday school, suspensions and, ultimately, finishing her junior year at Bolsa Grande High School, all of which led to derailment of her academic performance, according to her lawsuit.

1. This happened, to a much worse degree, here in Washoe County, Nevada's school district...

Back in the late-90's Derek Hinkle was shuttled around between several schools because no one wanted him to be their problem. He had a noose put around his neck by some hicks at Galena HS and they threatened to drag him behind their truck. He never received any help or protection from any school administrators or teachers and had to drop out, later getting his GED in New York I believe. Sued the district, several school administrations, and several teachers. He won and the district had to change some policies. Those fuckers at the Westboro Baptist Church (re:Fred Phelps and his inbred family) had planned to protest at Galena ... but chickened out the week before.
