The only way forward is to investigate
Here is the problem. For the past six years George W Bush has run this country into the ground. He has taken us to war through markettng and nationalism. People are tired of not winning and thus gave him a boot in the last election. We won the House and the Senate. Things are looking up right?

Now we have this Iraq Study report that everyone seems to agree with. But George is not buying into it. Instead he is sticking to his guns (literally). This would seem to be political suicide. But lets consider what is going on.

If George backs down he loses any political power he may posess. He already is a lame duck president. Backing down now just means he admits he has been beaten. He loses everything if he backs down.

But is there anything to gain? George is not running for office again. So he personally has nothing to lose. The Repugs can distance themself from him over the next two years so they can do damage control. But here is the problem. Now the Dems have to fix Iraq. Something that may simply be unfixable.

If we fail to make a significant impact in Iraq then the Repugs simply jetison George and pin the past 8 years on us. They can even call for impeachment themself or any other method to distance themself from George. Anything they do puts it on us and George. What we won in reality is what is called a poison pill.

The only way through this is to show just how this war came about and show just how involved the Repugs are and how corrupt this war was. We have to investigate how our intelligence was corrupted. We have to investigate who lied. And now that we are going to be controlling the committees that are in charge of such investigations we have to make the most of this.

They are going to try to pin the mess of this on us. We have to pin it firmly to them before they have a chance to do so.

1. I agree that the repubs will try and pin any Iraq failure on the dems, but...
they have tightly connected themselves to the war while at the same time making the case that the 'traitorous' Democrats didn't support the war. Remember, they were the party of 'national security'? I don't think they can reinvent history quite so dramatically. Could be wrong, but I don't think so.

3. Bush and the Republikers bought Iraq, they broke it,
and they own it, lock, stock, and barrel. The American people know enough to realize that the Democrats were out of power completely for six years, and anything that got done was the fault of the Repubs. Bush and the neoconmen were bound and determined to invade and occupy Iraq. They got their wish, and if the invasion and occupation had gone well they would have taken all of the credit. Since it hasn't gone well they have to take the blame. The Democrats can sit back and wait for things to get worse if they want, and it's still the Repubs war. They can help to get us out, and they will get the credit. The Repubs are in a no-win situation with this war.
