Vindication & Sadness
Ok. "The Report" is out now. The media are using terms such as, "Dire" & "Disaster" & "Grave" & "Un-windable" & "Lost" & "etc....."

"WE" knew this.

Vindication vs. Sadness

In October 2002, a BUNCH of DUers (and hundreds of thousands of Patriots) traveled to D.C. to protest the war. A war that had not started yet. Historic in its mission, genuine in its cause, most of us (I think) were WELL AWARE of the "Shock and Awe" that was to commence in spite of our efforts. But travel and scream and march we did nonetheless. WE had the numbers. WE had the streets. In spite of it all.

Paul Wellstone died on 'Protest Eve'. (Fitting somehow)

We THOUGHT at the time that this would be a mess. We had read the assessments, listened to the 'experts', studied the history. We talked here on DU. We knew disaster was about to strike both for OUR boys and girls and, perhaps more importantly (as WE were the invaders) the Iraqi's.

We were correct.

NOW the "report" is out. The report card of the invasion. Guess what DUers, WE get an 'A+'. Happy?

The pResident is a failure as is his poodle Blair. They are done. An election has proven the "People" are with us (now). They may have come late to the party but they showed up nonetheless (most with bottles of wine for their hosts).

I recently sent a letter via email to a local RW radio host who is now calling strongly for the Impeachment of George W. Bush. His is feverish in his demands now, for Bush's removal from office. This is a figure who up until recently was a NATIONAL radio host. The subject of my email identified me as a Liberal who now can find common ground with a person who is a self-proclaimed "Liberal-Hater".

We agree on something.

In my email I was very specific that I was NOT looking for accolades, 'thank yous', and was NOT going to tell him, "I told you so." I simply wanted to know if WE, as activist marching, traveling, Liberals, who happened to be RIGHT about this war, deserved ANY kudos for having the foresight to see this debacle before it happened. I wanted to know if we could find common ground to facilitate our common objective.

To this day, I have no response. Typical.

He is now on the bandwagon for COMPLETE removal of this administration. Glad you showed up to the party pal. Albeit late. But glad to see you have. Unfortunately, YOU supported the war in the beginning. I haven't heard the call for YOUR ouster yet YOUR position was no different than the Chimp in Chief. The only difference is that YOU can sleep at night because this isn't really YOUR fault as YOU don't have the title. YOU can't push the button but you sure CAN call the sheeple to arms to support it.

Since this report came out (important or not), I have felt a great sense of Vindication as both a DU member and an activist. The minds here are brilliant beyond the MSM and it is obvious to me that our collective minds can move mountains (yes, even when we fight like 4th graders).

We DO and CAN make a difference. Know that sometimes we fail (as we did in 10/02). But, we ALWAYS have the TRUTH on our side.

So, *I* feel Vindicated. Great.

We were right. That makes me sad.

And people have died. Tens of thousands. Iraqi's, Americans, Souls, Limbs, Men, Women, Children, Families, Generations, Truth, Honor, Freedom, Dignity, Humanity.

Dead.

To the Right Wing of this country: "EAT SHIT - WE WERE RIGHT"

To The Rest of America: "I'm so sorry we were."

1. Moving forward
they might give our point of view a wee bit more credence, seeing as we were so horribly right.

Then again--they might not.

2. I remember those days. I couldn't participate in the protests, but
I do remember the nail biting that we did anticipating what would happen if this moron got his way.

5. I couldn't afford to go...
A fact I blame on W.

I was glued to CNN all day. Near tears. So hopeful and so proud to be an American and so proud of those Americans in the street.

Remember the dozens of pictures posted here on DU? It was a good day here.

4. I've had that conversation with so many RWers
I wish I had a dollar for every time I said, "I hope I am wrong". I've said it soooo many times. There is no comfort in "I told you so".

We were damned if we were wrong, and now that we are right.

My b/f and I started this list the other night... all the things we argued about that we have now been proved right about. Our hearts sank and we couldn't continue past the first dozen or so.

Thanks for the memories.

6. Good post Mat. Food for thought - everyone who enabled the
squatter in chief and his gang are complicit.

They all share in the responsibility for the death and destruction that continues now even as they pompously and righteously yell for the squatters head. I give them no quarter.

And the squatter must be impeached.

8. I remembered the protests
I had a vision of thousands of children, horribly maimed and burned, and US soldiers dead or wounded. And, sadly, what I saw in my mind's eye was prophetic. We tried our best to tell, to warn--and our group was spat upon, and one lunatic came by telling us that Bush was the Second Coming of Christ. I wonder what those people are thinking now.

10. although I hadn't found DU before the war my hubby and i sat and
screamed at the TV what idiots they were.

I seriously considered the trip to DC but due to my business I was unable to do so.

I'm just so sorry for all the families whose lives have been destroyed in this misguided mess that is the Bush Administration

thanks for this thoughtful post Matcom, it's nice to see the 'other' side of the Lounge Lizard

14. Indeed. More and more people are seeing the facts. Does that mean we are now
a country of "Anti-American, Bush-hating, Communists?"

"If they were for peace, they would give every dollar they raise to the U.S. defense department because it's the U.S. defense department that keeps the peace and liberates the oppressed in the world and gives them the opportunity to have freedom, which is what we want for Iraq. It's beyond me how anybody can look at these protesters and call them anything other than what they are: anti-American, anti-capitalist, pro Marxists and communists." ~ Rush Limbaugh

I'd like to welcome my fellow alert/awakened Americans to the truth. The people of Iraq, and the soldiers and their families who are ever touched by this war deserve the first apology.
