That was a responsible comment. Corn is not a good source of Ethanol (too wasteful), which unlike hydrogen, could power our future.

There is nothing 'wasteful' about producing ethanol from corn, particularly considering most of the food value remains after processing. The issue is how the process energy is generated.

Corn + Wind Energy (For Processing) = Ethanol + Food

Under the above, I view corn ethanol as an energy carrier for wind generated energy.

Switchgrass, though, is the 'holy grail'. It can be grown on the marginal land of the high plains, with minimal year to year cultivation. An added benefit is the possibility of using the 'stranded' wind energy potential on the high plains for process energy (that is, wind potential that is located too far from demand).

On Edit: I do agree, the way corn ethanol is currently produced, it is of little benefit as an energy source.
