I first noticed Gore back in 1988. He seemed genuine but then he dropped out of the race. I really started believing in Gore after "Earth in the Balance" came out. Yeah, it was dense reading but it struck a chord with me. Anyway, when I got the chance to campaign for him as the head of the ticket I did it. I took a lot of shit after he lost in 2000. It felt like a lot of people turned them backs on him but I didn't. I've defended Gore. I felt like he got railroaded by the media during the election cycle, during the recount period and afterward but he never gave up. And deep down, neither have I.
I understand the no baggage thing. It would be nice if we could pull someone in that appealed to everyone, but it isn't going to happen. Look what the media did to Dean, Kucinich, Clark, Sharpton, Edwards, Mosely-Braun and Kerry. Hell, look what they did to Hart, Clinton, Condit and Dukakis. And that was just the corporate media. You know, if Jesus himself came back and ran as a Democrat the Savages, Hannitys and Limpballs would all be there piling on. They'd say things like, "well, he does seem to hang out with the guys a lot" and then they'd launch innuendos that he was gay. Or, they'd bring up the fact that Joseph wasn't really his father. "You know that his mother, Mary, got knocked up and got this guy to marry her." Finally, they'd say that "Jesus doesn't connect with the common man. He's always talking about peace. He's the type that would cut and run." Face it, no matter what, the corporate media and the RW stooges will fabricate something.
The difference with Gore is, they've said all they can say. Gore's out there changing people's minds. He's not the crazy "Mr. Ozone" that Bush I said he was. And, that whole "lock box" thing, it starting to sound a whole lot better to people now that the economic boom is over. People who see Gore now, whether it is on Leno or in AIT, see that he's the wooden man that he was depicted. His ideas don't sound so crazy now. It's like that tagline for "Men In Black", they're seeing him again, for the first time. A lot more people understand that the Gore they ridiculed is a statesman.
As for Lieberman, I didn't know he was going to turn out to be such an asshole. I knew my local politics and I knew some of the national leaders but I really didn't know that much about Lieberman back in 2000. I'm probably wrong, but I think Lieberman was adversely affected by 9/11. He heard the MSM pundits and others who said stupid things like, "Good thing Bush was in the WH after 9/11" and believed it. I think Lieberman lost it after 9/11 and decided to go the way the wind was blowing.
Anyway, I don't think is damaged goods. I see his popularity growing and his message is reaching more and more people.
Finally, I'm demanding that Gore run. I think he has a lot of great ideas. I also think he has international credibility and that is something we need now.
