BBC: Dollar plunges on world markets
Last Updated: Wednesday, 29 November 2006, 09:00 GMT

Dollar plunges on world markets

The dollar has continued its recent decline, falling to fresh 20-month
lows against the euro as concerns grow about a US economic slowdown.

In early Wednesday trading in the Far East, the dollar was hovering
at about $1.32 against the euro, and also down against both sterling and
the yen.

The dollar's continuing weakness came after US data showed a fall in both
the price of goods and consumer confidence.

Analysts now predict US interest rates will have to be cut early next year.

7. For the Brits it's a perpetual 50% off sale!
I'm thrilled with our measley 30% gain with our euros...now if we had only had the foresight to move our savings to Eurozone some months back. Sigh.

8. Republican talking points. Falling dollar is a good thing.
1. Correction of the currency markets.
2. Now foreigners can afford to buy the products we no longer manufacture.
3. Imports are more expensive, forcing Americans to buy, well, American. See last part of #2.
4. It's the result of the world reacting to both Houses of Congress going to the democrats.
