Why Do You Love America?
This is a country that exists because of, primarily, beliefs of others from other countries that there is opportunity.

We may have been undergoing some fundamental, yet hopefully transient, changes, yet this is still the country for others to strive to reach. It is. Check the immigration rates.

I love America because it afforded my mother the ability to raise 5 children after my dad died during the last ignorant war.

I love America because, for most of my life, I was not fearful of the government taking away my personal rights, and therefore my freedom.

I love America because there are still many who believe that the rights afforded to one equate to rights being afforded to all.

Why do you love america?

Why, it was just 7 years ago when it looked like America was taking another big step toward realizing a more perfect Union, then Blam! Back to the Nazis.

9. Conservatives are the one's who hate America.
America progresses and moves forward, meanwhile these people want to hold time still. The very strengths of our government, our compassion both here and abroad, our ethnic diversity, our pursuit of equality for all in both our laws and history, they can't tolerate it.

If it were up to conservatives, they would still be huddled in a cave somewhere in western Europe, living like neanderthals/homo erectus, assuming the world is flat, and trying to master fire, all the while battling each other for alpha male status. Thank goodness for progressives throughout the ages who have bucked conventional wisdom for something more. And it needs to continue, if we are to continue towards a more perfect union.

4. Because regardless of how much damage greedy pompous bastards
do to our nation, we always bounce back and remain a beacon to the world. The melting pot is the key to our success and prevent the addition of more and exotic ingredients will be our downfall.

5. I love the Constitution
Edited on Mon Nov-27-06 07:25 PM by wryter2000
What a remarkable document. I love that our founders were followers of the Enlightenment. When I think of how bravely they acted when they could have been safely comfortable at home, it makes me so proud. I only hope we haven't lost all that.

How can you love something so intangible as a country?

I like what America says it stands for, but that's about it.

26. Exactly
A country is nothing but artificial borders and laws enforced by a government that has declared it has a right to control a certain area of land.

15. I love America because of the ideals it represents.
And I love it because it is my home, and the home of my whole family, and I feel very rooted here.

I do *not* buy into the garbage that everyone wants to come here.

You said "this is still the country for others to strive to reach. It is. Check the immigration rates."

Fact is, other people love their countries just as much as I love mine. If you look, there are always countries (plural) people are trying to immigrate to--it's not just America.

19. I don't.
I love my planet. I love the rocks, water, soil, plants, and life-forms on my planet. I love the seasons. I love particular places in the United States: The Rocky Mountains, the Cascades, Yosemite and Sequoia Nat'l Parks, the Oregon coast, the Mojave Desert, Central Oregon.

I love so many of the people on my planet and in the U.S.; I love the ideas, the beauty, the music, the art, the literature, the creative technologies, the libraries, the museums, the universities, the independent book stores, the gardens, the family farms, the philosophers.

I love some of the ideals promoted by the constitution of the U.S..

I love some of what the U.S. government allows, and provides for, citizens.

I love my friends, my family, my dog, cats, chickens, sheep, and horses.

I love my students. I love learning, reading, thinking.

I love my independence.

What is my "country?" A set of political boundaries and laws? I don't love politics, political boundaries, or political systems. Love is more universal than that. It crosses all boundaries and makes them irrelevant. So how do you love a country?

Hopefully we can TRASH the "faith-based
