GWB loudly booed at sold-out Dixie Chicks concert...priceless
The story is this - before the show started, a trailer for their new documentary was projected on the large screen over the stage. It included footage of * making some asinine comment. As soon as he came on, the place just erupted with a deep, rumbling, loud, unified boo - like folks had been holding it in for too long. And then, later in the set, they played 'Not Ready to Make Nice', and the whole crowd joined in the song, and the applause, when they finished the song, was deafening and thunderous. They ended the show with a four song encore, and sent everyone home with the memory of an amazing, magnificent, magical show. :bounce: :applause: :bounce: :applause: :bounce: :applause: :bounce: :applause:

6. The show was this last Friday in Oakland, California
Which means that people from all over the Bay Area were there. That includes San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, Walnut Creek, Richmond, and who knows...Maybe even a few folks from Santa Cruz and Marin and parts 'Norther' and 'Souther'.
Ok, Ok, it's admittedly a very progressive region :-)

3. Wow
I have a dear friend that saw them in Fresno and she couldn't believe it was totally apolitical. I guess it depends on the venue

booing the chimp may become the "in" thing to do. We've been doing it here on DU since 2000, now the rest of the country is catching up. Far out!!

11. I don't like country music
but I am glad the Dixie Chicks are back. I take it back, I liked the remake they did of Landslide but what happened to them for speaking their minds was atrocious.

I hope they win some awards this year. Good for them.

12. I was in the convenience store indulging my beer habit and I
heard a country song on the Muzak that sounded familiar. Nearly bust out
cheering when I realized it was "Not Ready to Make Nice."

19. That's great, I hope our new Dem majority sees our support of liberals
and acts on our behalf - and not as the Republicans are arrogantly warning them to act.
There's real support for a liberal approach out here. Now is the time to make REAL change happen.

20. "I don't like country music, but I love ____________."
Next time you find yourself saying this, here's what's really happened. You've just heard some REAL Country Music--as opposed to the safe-as-milk, flag-sucking drivel that Nashville churns out by the hogshead.

Look at those who came before the Dixie Chicks: Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle and the latter-day Johnny Cash. They succeeded in spite of--and outside of--Nashville. The Nashville Establishment cannot handle anyone who goes outside the lines. The Chicks, long before Natalie spoke her mind, were the exception to this rule. They went merrily along with their fiddle and banjo (anathema to the alleged Nashville Sound), selling millions of CDs and pausing just long enough to bring Sony Music to its knees over their CONtract.

To everyone who says "I hate country music, but I love the Dixie Chicks," I say you've just heard the real deal when you hear those women--or Steve Earle or Dwight or Cash. You've experienced the difference between Budweiser and Guinness.

Nashville is as far removed from Country Music as bu$h is from true Conservatism.

21. I deprived myself of Johnny Cash for decades because he was "Country"
and I don't like "Country" music.

:spank: :spank: :spank: :spank: :spank:

My older sister was the big influence in my life in terms of the music I listened to and "Country" was unacceptable to her. Beatles and Rolling Stones and Elton John were all okay, but Elvis Presley and Johhny Cash - evil. I still don't like Elvis Presley, but I'll admit to what John Prine says in one of his songs - "50 million Elvis Presley fans can't be all wrong." And for Cash - I just LOVE the Man In Black.
