Is there anyone out there who is "presidential" material?
Someone who can restore intelligence and dignity to the White House after these horrible years?

1. Yes and we will see that whole bunch starting to emerge shortly.
We will have differing views of who that will be, but there are some good potential candidates.

3. If that's your criteria, almost anyone on DU could do that.
Let's hope our new Congress passes meaningful campaign finance reform so that we can run people who can do the job, not the ones who can raise money to run.

4. Gore
Now that he's not pretending to be a DLCer, he's comfortable in his own skin. He has the experience and the gravitas - and, as far as I can tell, he's neither a craven triangulator or a liar (well, the "I invented the Internet" thing was a little much).

A Gore/Feingold ticket would be great.

6. I agree
He would be a wonderful president especially after all that has happened. Too bad we haven't had him since 2000. Feingold is great too.

5. There's a lot of them out there.
You can pretty much run down the list of the 2004 Democratic Presidential candidates (except Lieberman) and any of them would make a fine President. Then there's Al Gore, who ought to be the front-runner of anybody's list. He has been right about nearly everything regarding this administration since the beginning.

7. I've heard of someone.
Former 4 star general, Rhodes scholar, economics professor, master diplomat, highly intelligent, exemplifies honor, unafraid to call himself a liberal and can flat out kick your ass if necessary.

Hmmm... What was his name again?

Besides money, I mean.

18. We'll have to see.
All things being equal he should be a shoe-in. But of course all things are not equal in politics. We'll have to see what kind of media coverage he gets and what kind of national party support he gets. He can raise a ton of cash through the grassroots as well as with the big moneymen, we saw that during this last campaign. With the right moves and a little luck he can get it done. I'll be among the first on the front lines in any case.

13. Yes, but sometimes it seems he'll never get there if he has to campaign for it
The same has been said about Kerry and Gore. They'd both make really good presidents if only they weren't such lousy campaigners.

14. What does "presidential material" mean anymore?
The office of the presidency hss been so tarnished beyond recongnition and dignity, I don't even know how the question could be answered otherwise without asking: Do you mean presidential material in a political system where the Forefathers's vision is actually carried out? Or the toxic, corrosive, bought and sold one we have now?

19. People grow into their positions as they reach toward them.
That's why we start out with 10 or 12 and wind up with 2 or 3 top runners.

Honestly, in 1992 I thought the ticket should have been Gore-Clinton instead.
