Now that the election is over and the Dems recovered their power, it seems like ClearChannel prefers to play more commercials in place of those ceaseless, pre-election speeches that Hannity used to rant and rave on the air against the 'liberal, leftwing Democrats'. More reason to keep the radio off. With a little luck, the loud-mouth Hannity has been canned for the season. When he went national, the wingnut movement was considered to be fringe, for kooks, marginalized. I remember the shock of when he first burst on the air.

1) the HOT HIP music.

2) He slowly SPELLED OUT his name for weeks and months.

3) He MARGINALIZED his own wingnut fringe kooks---the Tri-lateralists, John BIRCHers, the overt racists---would not allow those callers to get through on his show. He insisted on playing a MAINSTREAM role, refusing to be MARGINALIZED.

4) His scorched earth bottom line, NO compromise.

5) The "humor" of RIDICULING and demonizing any and all "enemies" (Libs).

It took him a good 5 or more years to be acknowledged by the mainstream media figures. G.E. RUSSERT was the first one to invite him onto interview shows, featuring him for several Thanksgiving weekend airings, long weekends with repeats.
