Amidst all this impeachment talk, something to consider
Suppose we get what we want: The Articles of Impeachment are drawn up, passed in committee, then passed in the full House.
Then it goes to trial in the Senate, and each charge is voted on. You need 67 votes for conviction: meaning 16 Republicans and Lieberman.

Where, pray tell, are we going to get 16 Republicans who will stand up for what is right and vote to convict? And it doesn't matter how overwhelming the evidence is. Denying the screamingly obvious facts when they don't fit the ideology is the Republican's specialty.

I'm not saying don't push the Democrats to impeach, by all means, have at it. But don't think you'll actually achieve the goal of kicking Shrub out of office

1. There are a TON of Republican senators up for reelection in 2008
I really don't think protecting Bush from justice will help them much.

2. you are right about the republicans
nixon quit because the republican leadership told him they could not stop the impeachment because republicans would also vote against him.
what bugs me the most about the impeachment talk is that is no time to impeach unless that is all the house and senate do for all of next year and after 2007 it`s all about getting reelected...

3. I have said this over and over and over.
If this process is not done right and with the right timing it will come back to bite the Democrats in the ass no matter how noble the motives may be. It is not certain that all Democratic Senators will vote for impeachment. Not all Republican Senators voted for impeachment of Clinton. Pelosi is right in saying that impeachment is off the table. Let the hearings and investigations allow impeachment to put itself on the table.

4. I doubt there is a single DUer who would disagree with your sentiment.
"Let the hearings and investigations allow impeachment to put itself on the table." Everyone agrees we need to follow due process and evaluate the evidence in an objective fashion. But the discussion really focuses on what the next step is after it is referred to the Judiciary Committee. Can any reasonable person not believe that crimes have been committed? It would boggle my mind if all of the proceedings occur, we have all of the evidence collected and evaluated, and our Democrats come to a conclusion that this administration did nothing impeachable. Personally, it would be the last straw for this 35 year Democrat and I'd probably go Independent. If we don't stand up for justice, what have we become? The designated Cover-up Party for the designated Crime Party? I don't have the stomach to see another Iran-Contra sham give these criminals yet another pass.

6. The only time the threat of impeachment worked
was with Nixon because the public was horrified and what he and his did. Nixon gave up because the Repukes in Congress felt the pressure of their constituents and applied that pressure on him. It must be bipartisan or it will destroy the country. But is that's what you want- well I'd rather you chew your own nose off of your face and leave mine and everyone else's alone.
