Taking back the flag
For the last few years out of protest, I couldn't in good faith, put out the flag and wave it proudly. Mainly because its meaning, I felt, would have meant that I support what the bush administration distortion had brought to it.

Today, on Veterans Day, I'm taking it back. I swear I'm never letting them take it away ever again.

1. Put out flag
This is Goddess40's mom. Because they are our veterans, too, I put out the flag today. In fact, two of the guys that protest for peace with us are veterans. One of them served both in the army and marines.

2. me too, sadly. Just didn't feel right to brag about my country

After 9/11 I had it up every day. I took it down March 21, 2003 when we illegally invaded Iraq.

I'm thinking about putting it up again today.

5. Do it!
It's time to take the flag back. This is the New Patriotism.

7. Hi Stephanie--Think I will
I saw a news story about Indians at the Taos Pueblo. They raise the flag every day, no matter what, reverently. They said, "We won't let them take our flag away."

Ironic, I know. But if those people can feel they own the flag, who am I to reject it?

6. I've been thinking the same thing since Tuesday
on the drive to my house I pass a house that's hard to ignore. They have a beautiful garden with some great (and some funky) garden art. They also have a big US flag flying from their front porch...right next to a "rainbow" flag. Every time I pass the house it lifts my spirits (I've even thought about sending them a note to that effect but being such a creature of email I think I've forgotten how!) to see a gay flag next to an American flag. Their yard was filled with signs for Dems this season.

On my way home from work on Wednesday I heard "It's a Grand Old Flag" as a lead in tune to some NPR bit on the radio. It brought me to tears (of joy) and I thought "I WANT MY FLAG BACK!"

Let's take it!
