36. Thinking about minority rights

While I'm here.

Right now, the Minority cannot:

Hold hearings
Create new legislation (without permission/help from Majority)
Drive the schedule or direction of the legislature
Win a vote (unless there are Majority members in agreement)

All we can do is obstruct.

In other words, we are in the minority, so we can't decide which direction the government goes. But we CAN slow or halt the progress in a direction we dislike. And that power forces the majority to attempt to accommodate us when they act.

We don't have the steering wheel, but we can jump in front of the car.

When you take that away, what else can we do?

Do the Democrats on the Gang of 14 want to remove their party's only remaining power at the moment?

It's important to let some undecided folks know that Alito is all the things they themselves dislike and even despise.
