So - What should the Democratic plan to fight terrorism?
We keep hearing the rw nut jobs saying the terrorists are happy we won - so what is our plan?

If anything, to me, the opposite is true - bush, cheney, et al all had ties to saddam and obl. I am guessing the terrorists are actually quite worried at this point :)

For me, one top thing would be to heal any damaged relationships with foreign countries and rebuild trust in the US, more funds and oversight to intelligence, and stop using countries and deal with them on good faith basis. I am sure there are many better ideas than mine out there, let's hear em!

1. I think a big part of it should involve really listening to the advice of the
military and intelligence communities, and not hanging on the words of 'sources' who tell us what we want to hear, e.g. Chalabi...

2. The plan should be the following
All Ports must have the latest technology to detect chemical weapons etc...-
No port in America can be run by a foreign country..

All of the 9/11 commmissions recommendations must be followed..

Our national security is dependent on us getting off the oil habit..alternative fuels and energy.....

Rebuild our relationships around the world and reestablish the US as a respected country...

That's off the top of my head...

3. Step One
Eliminate the 725 bases in 132 countries. Worldwide sentiment shifts immediately. Otherwise you're trapped in a never ending game of security fences.

5. expose the "War on Terror" for the sham that it is-
in the past decade, terrorists have roughly 3,000 people in this country...
meanwhile, drunk-drivers, as just ONE example, kill 17,000+ EVERY YEAR. so where shouyld the real priorities be?

and the "terra-ists" DON'T "hate us for our freedom"- they hate us for having troops in their lands, and for blindly supporting isreal in ALL situations. so- if we want to "fight" terror, we should address those issues first and foremost

7. a) there is no war on terror.
The problem with terrorist gangs is essentially an international law enforcement problem that should be treated as such. Kerry had it right, briefly, when he made this point in the 04 campaign, but then he got advised back into warnterra idiocy.

b) stop screwing around with the middle east. There are actual good reasons why the muslim world despises our nation, and it has to do with the way we have behaved in the middle east. Maybe we should stop continuing to give them more reasons to hate us on a daily basis.

c) get off of our oil addiction - we screw around with the middle east in order to control its strategic oil reserves. Now as long as we are totally dependent on cheap oil that policy actually makes sense, in a sick king of the hill damn everyone else sort of way. The alternative is to stop being dependent on cheap oil. I'm thinking that the 500,000,000,000 or so we've spent so far on killing Iraqis and breeding terrorists would have been spent much more wisely on the development of alternative energy sources.

10. #1. the War on Terrorism is a farce. Address this... it is only fear based
#2. Remove the largest terrorists by Impeaching them and removing them to their proper homes (a jail cell)
#3. Extend humanitarian aid to the 2 countries we have decimated with our bombs and depleted uranium
#4. Install real education in our classrooms so that children learn peace and learn tolerance so that wars end.

This would be a start.

Fix U.S. foreign policy-- the root of the problem-- and there will be no need to defend ourselves against the angry oppressed.
