ALERT in Alabama! !! 6 Dems Senators seek to coalition with rethugs -AGAINST OTHER DEMS??
Edited on Thu Nov-09-06 02:31 PM by RiverStone
Considering the BIG BLUE WAVE that swept so many rethugs out of power, this may be off many folks radar. Though lets keep this weird move on the DU horizon. Am I reading this right?:

http://www.al.com/news/birminghamnews/index.ssf?/base/news/116306746519320.xml&coll=2

Looks like 6 Dems are proposing to form a "coalition" with Alabama rethugs that may be in opposition to the rest of the 17 Dem Senators in the Alabama House :wtf: Why do they wanna climb in bed with rethugs against their own??? Important to note that should they do this, it would leave almost all the African American Senators (on the other side) and in a weaker political position. Suggestive of a racist agenda? Anybody in Alabama get this?

4. Tell me about it
I live in Kansas. We've gotten bashed from all sides especially after that f**king book came out. Hang in there and keep working to wake others up and get them involved.

6. I'm a Californian and I agree with both of you
Let's knock off this condescending steer manure toward people in the South or evangelical Christians. We are going to need every vote we can get. That's no way to win friends and influence people.

12. Thank you
We're working to turn it around. We got rid of of our fanatical anti-abortion AG and replaced him with a serious prosecutor who is more worried about real crimes than tyring to invent them. We've also gotten rid of most of the anti-evolution school board and dumped fundamentalist Rep. Jim Ryun. It has taken a lot of work over a number of years but we did it despite people making fun of us.

Sometimes I think people pick on states like Kansas to make themselves feel better; like they enjoying kicking us when we're down and trying to pull ourselves up.

Thank you for your support and for believing in people, not stereotypes.

14. We should kiss their ass after how many years them kicking us in..........
the privates. If you don't give the bullies their just do they will come back to do it again and again. The idea of making this congress the most honest and ethical in history makes many of them on the take shake in their boots. Let them worry about that if they need influence.

17. There are many reasons the Democrats won Tuesday
One of the biggest ones is that one third of evangelical Christians who had been voting Republican voted Democratic. They are not shaking in their boots at the thought of an honest and ethical government. On the contrary, that is exactly why they voted for the Democrats instead of the Republicans this time.

I want to hang on to those votes. I'd rather have these people as my friends than my enemies. While we've felt some frustration at their social conservatism, a lot of them are also WalMart employees. Maybe we won't offer a ban on abortion and gay marriage, but we can encourage cheapskate employers like WalMart to pay their employees a living wage instead of telling them how to apply for public assistance. Democrats can promise to make life better and easier for these people and their traditional families.

I have always believed that is a proper role of government. That's one of the reasons why I'm a Democrat.

If the Democrats can deliver what we need to these people, then 2008 may very well turn out to be a watershed election marking the beginning of an era of Democratic dominance in American politics.

That will make you feel better than kicking anybody's ass, won't it?

18. I know, and please excuse the anger
Really any thing that I have observed in my life that I thought of as supernatural or of a God(s) was beneficial. Maybe we can all get to see how honesty and forgiveness go hand in hand.

The few bad apples that are hanging around need to be culled is all I was really getting at

I find it hard to believe any state that sweeps that idiot to resounding victory time in and time out is winnable at this point.

8. Because you have to understand the South
First of all.
Take my town. They won't elect a Democrat nationally, however, locally they won't elect a Republican.
Sooo, everyone runs as a Democrat. Republicans included.
Nobody votes in the Republican Primary but everyone votes in the Democratic Primary.
My guess would be that these "Democrats" are actually Republicans who did the same thing and are just joining their own.

11. This is ugly!
Politics here in Alabama is ugly, there are certainly the white "George Wallace" type democrats. And there are "bad guy" democrats all over the place, white and African American. I don't know any of the people named in this article, but Lowell Barron certainly has his detractors. It's not good if they're successful of wresting power from him at the expense of African-American Dems. I've said it before, the Alabama Democratic party is so splintered, it's nearly impossible to get anything cohesive out of it. I almost always have to hold my nose whenever I vote in state elections.

I do want to give a shout out to my state senator, Linda Coleman...she rocks!

20. Allow me to clarify
Alabama Democrats are not liberals, but populists. Most are socially conservative, but feel that corporations ought not run the state. Hell, the Lt. Gov's first commercial showed him cleaning his shotguns and going to church. These are senators who want some attention from the the majority leader, so they are hinting at breaking ranks. Stupid, but it's a good, hardball power play. We'll see how it turns out.
