Candidates’ losses have barely sunk in, but K Street insiders are already sizing up this year’s batch of senatorial hopefuls who came up short on Election Day.
Several lobbyists and business sources have singled out Rep. Harold Ford Jr. (D-Tenn.), Sen. Jim Talent (R-Mo.) and Sen. Mike DeWine (R-Ohio) as “good catches” for the business community, while some believe that Sens. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) and Conrad Burns (R-Mont.) may not end up on K Street any time soon.

While it’s highly unlikely that any of these senators have received offers yet, executive head-hunting firms are going to contact them soon and vie for their representation, said one veteran GOP lobbyist.

Basically, in sum, Talent VERY likely to be targetted as a lobbyist, same with DeWine whose political career is completely over. Burns is less likely to be offered a good position. Santorum might become head of some "family-values" lobbying group. Ford (D) seen as being heavily wooed but less likely to actually take a position because he wants to stay in politics and worries it could taint him.
