*** OFFICIAL ELECTION NIGHT OPEN THREAD #1 ***
For those of you who want to participate in an ongoing election night play-by-play thread, here you go. You are not required to post in these official threads. They are being offered for those of you who like having your discussion concentrated in one place.

This is very unstructured. Feel free to use this thread to post results as they come in, or to post stuff that happens on TV, or to crack jokes, or whatever.

When this thread reaches approximately 100 posts, the moderators will open a new one.

WHEN A WINNER IS CALLED IN A PARTICULAR RACE, then you can go post the result of that race in one of the three Official Results threads pinned to the top of the General Discussion forum, titled Governors 2006, Senate 2006, and House 2006. Those threads are for results only -- they are not for discussion.

13. Blue. My favorite color. Blue, baby, blue!
You must leave now
Take what you need, you think will last
But whatever you wish to keep, you better grab it fast.
Yonder stands your orphan, with his gun
Crying like a fire in the sun.
Look out the saints are comin through
And its all over now, baby blue.

38. I'd rather it take a week and be correct........
than cram it into one night and have the results be suspect. We have to do something about this 1 day election. Divide the alphabet into 3 groups and have voting over 3 days. So it takes a little longer to find out the winner. I'd rather the results be spot on.
Just a difference of opinion I guess.

22. My last appeal to all California voters who are lurking or participating
on this thread. Don't vote for Arnold, just because he did a few progressive things right before the election to get elected. After the election he will revert back to the same old Arnold.

Arnold is dishonest and breaks laws when they don't suit him. He was an illegal immigrant for awhile you know. I don't believe he should have been rewarded for this by being allowed to become governor, and he certainly shouldn't remain governor.

Also, he has the distinction of being one of the most corrupt governors in the whole history of the USA according to Lawrence O'Donnell (ex-producer on "The West Wing).

If you work for the state be advised that Phil Angelides was instrumental in saving your pension fund from Arnold's budget ax. So fence sitters, it's time to vote the Govenator out of office.

34. Pachamama Here - Working in the Working Assets War Room! Need DU help ASAP!
Skinner and DU- I'm under a temp name on DU because I forgot my password and my account is linked to a now discontiued email account!

I'm going to post a bunch of posts until I can post a thread, but I am here in our War Room organized by the theMMOB, Working Assets, True Majority and Election Protection.

The reports are awful from all over the country, but in particular Denver. I'll report more in a moment, but they need help in Denver - badly. I'm with a bunch of gals right now and we are posting on DailyKos and elsewhere trying to get out the word for help. We need people in Denver who are available to go bring Drink and food to people standing in line. A judge declined a request to keep the polls open till 9PM, so they are closing at 7PM. Anybody in line at 7PM will be allowed to vote after that. But we need people to go down and encourage people who have already been standing for a few hours to stay.

I'll post more details in a minute.

Namaste

Pachamama

52. Just got back from voting - near presidential levels for voting
turn out in our district is as heavy if not heavier than 2004 presidential.

we're tiny - only about 600 and change for registered voters, my partner and I were voter #473 and 474. We voted around the same time of the day during 2004 and at that time our vote numbers was in the 300 range

took us about 10 minutes to get checked in, thankfully no long lines running out the door as it started raining. This is Santorum/Sherwood district in PA

92. Welcome, Kingfish
DU's a great place to hang out and discuss things. It is a WEALTH of information, and you'll find stuff out here that the mainstream media will barely touch on. Glad to have you aboard! :hi:

59. Blue All the Way!
Since standing in the hotel ballroom at the Democratic Party's "celebration" on Miami Beach in 2000 and hearing the words on the big screen..."we take Florida back from Gore", I have waited for this day. May we get our country back.

Good luck to us all and may it be a good night!!!!:dem:

86. I'm confused
What is that telling me? GOP leads Senate 40-27? 40 what to 27 what? Maybe I'm just having a brain malfunction here, but that seems to be telling me that the GOP is way out in front.

Sorry if this is a stupid question.

82. Exit polling blocked in Texas...
Does anyone know where I can upload and then link to an audio file or a poll worker advising me that I could not video or audio tape an exit poll?

I had checked with my elections office in Dallas county who advised that I just need to remain 100 feet away from entry. I was at least triple that distance when "Jonathan" came out and advised I could not ask people for comments on elections or ask how they voted. He has his hand over the video, and the related audio is all garbled. Little did he know that I had a pocket dictation recorder in my shirt pocket that caught the whole ordeal.

I advised him that I had checked with the county. And he was stern on the point that "you do not have the right to ask people how they voted". I stated "this is public property (school) for a public election". To which he replied "It is still against the law". I advised "I was going to call the media", to which he replied "he would call the police."

Now I am eagerly awaiting the results and also looking forward to the Daily Show/Colbert Report/Dan Rather show tonight at 11PM.

88. CNN exit poll - issues
CNN is reporting that the following issues are the most important to voters according to their exit polls:

42% Corruption
40% Terrorism
39% Economy
37% Iraq

I think the last three are no surprise. They've been saying this for weeks, but the corruption being at the top is rather interesting. Yay American people! Let's give these rep. bastards a swift (boat?) kick on their way out the door!

Tweety says the numbers indicate this looks like one of those times in history when people want to change their minds. Keith says they are holding back to be sure on some things, but says this is "heavy stuff."
