Bush says he intends to make social security a big issue AFTER the November 7th elections. Why not now? His idea of privatization is about as popular as a turd in a punchbowl maybe? One question I would put to the voters in this final week if I were a candidate is whether they would prefer that social security reform be handled by a Bush rubber stamp Congress or by one that will stand up to Bush as a meaningful check and balance.

President George W. Bush, whose effort last year to overhaul
Social Security proved highly unpopular, said he plans a renewed push to rein in the costs of entitlement programs after the elections.

Bush has named Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to lead discussions with both Democratic and Republican lawmakers about ways to contend with the future costs of the Social Security retirement program and the Medicare health program.
Government spending on such programs is expected to soar in coming years as the huge baby boom generation begins to retire.
