Media Matters: ABC memo reveals Air America advertiser blacklist
http://mediamatters.org/items/200610310008

An internal ABC Radio Networks memo obtained by Media Matters for America, originally from a listener to The Peter B. Collins Show, indicates that nearly 100 ABC advertisers insist that their commercials be blacked out on Air America Radio affiliates. According to the memo, the adverstisers insist that "NONE of their commercials air during AIR AMERICA programming." Among the advertisers listed are Bank of America, Exxon Mobil, Federal Express, General Electric, McDonald's, Microsoft, Wal-Mart, and the U.S. Navy.

18. I have a list of GOP contributors in my signature
and a conveient way to send them email and a list of legislative demands.

This looks like a list of advertisers that ABC found out that AIR AMERICA boycotts.

12. Huh?
I was thinking that those who avoid positioning on partisan radio regardless of left or right are making a different statement than those who blacked out Air America while advertising on Limbaugh, Hannity, et alia. The latter group are without question working against liberal media.

21. I agree with you. I can accept a company not wanting to
alienate customers. But if there are only certain customers they don't want to alienate, that's a problem.

Who's willing to listen to Rush, Hannity, O'Reilly et al to check their advertisers against this list?

48. And, IMO,
it's time to let them KNOW they are being boycotted and why.

I have to leave in a bit ~~ but when I get back, I am going to get contact info on as many of these companies as I can and fire off emails/letters that I will not be patronizing them in any manner if they are not advertising on AAR because it is LW media.

IMO, it is good to not use them if this is what they are doing ~~ it is better to let them know why they are not being patronized and that people plan to spread the word that they are supporting such things as the lies that took us into Iraq and covering for sexual predators such as Mark Foley. I know that manner of complaint got me emails and a telephone call from GM. IMO, we need to be heard and heard loudly!

I am thinking that the first issue I will address in my emails/letters is the question of WHY the refusal to run ads on AAR. If the deal is that they are not running ads on either RW or LW media, that is one thing to remain a-political (not that I think that in this day and age that is anything good or I agree with the stance ~~ but I can except that position), but if they are not going on AAR because it is LW, then they do not need me as a customer. Let them get RW dollars because my LW dollars are going elsewhere.

And, I sure as hell am going to check on their political donations if I get some reply that says they are choosing to remain "a-political" and they are donating to RW issues and candiates.

Let's hit them HARD, OK???

:hi:

They may want to keep their companies out of politically partisan programs, but if any of these companies advertise on right-wing talk shows, then they have no excuse. Bastards.

they may just want to stay out of politics, period.

I would also like to see whether these sponsors advertise during any other political programs.
If there are any, I would give kudos to sponsors who blacklist only during right-wing shows.

33. To be fair ...
There should be a statement on their web sites concerning advertising on radio. I'm not saying there is such a statement. I'm saying there should be one if they're taking this position.

The problem is, this is a blacklist, not intended for public viewing. In other words, they don't want us to know that they're shunning the liberal audience, perhaps?

That would be interesting to see if any of those advertisers don't want to be on ANY shows with political content one way or the other.

We need to find out which of these will advertise on RW radio but not liberal radio &

BOYCOTT THEM

I'm sure a lot of these advertisers don't want to be on any biased shows, but those who are singling out AAR will need to be eliminated by boycott.

46. I'm guessing that many companies don't want to
advertise on ANY politically biased programming. Actually, I think that's kind of smart. But, if these same people who won't advertise on AAR are advertising on right-wing radio, a boycott is in order. Now someone with a stomach needs to listen to Rush with this list in hand. But I can't do that. My stomach isn't that strong. :puke:

Just because some of these companies request not to be advertised on Air America does not make them biased against Democrats or progressive causes. It's entirely possible some of these companies just don't want to be associated with any political side -- some of them may have requested to be removed from advertising lists of conservative/Republican broadcasts too.

EDIT: nevermind, i see this was brought up in a couple posts already.
