Extremist? I think not
The Republican smear machine is gearing up to try to bury the filthy stench of their most recent scandal, the one scandal that has proved to be of more interest to the American people than so many that have come before it.

Our less-than-esteemed Speaker, the cocky and corpulent Denny Hastert, would like to paint everyone from Moveon.org to the likes of us here at DU, as extremists who are trying to take down a legitimate political party.

Let's start with the notion that we're "extremists."

Is it "extreme" to expect honesty and openness from our government? To wish for lies to be exposed and treachery be punished?

Is calling for honorable behavior from our "representatives" nothing more than "partisan" politics?

Hardly.

The idea of a democracy, which our less-than-esteemed President alleges to intend to spread across the globe, is that it's a government "of the people."

Democracy, without accurate information, is impossible. If those who elect to represent us lie to us and pay the media to aid in their distortions, it is not democracy they serve. It is something else. Something that can only be described as sinister.

Many of us have issues with the fact that this latest scandal, this sex scandal, is the one that has grown legs and is overrunning the spin. I can see that. But in the light of all the things that have come before it, it is merely icing on the cake. It's the single episode that, once it's been scraped away, will reveal the rot that spreads from the core.

They claim to decry "partisan" politics, but ignore the fact that there are different parties for a reason. Because ONE party, one set of alleged "values," cannot claim to represent the interests of all Americans. We NEED partisanship at times like these. We need those who are willing to stand up to the spin and say "this will not stand."

It's not extremist. It's rational. And it's time for us to shove a needle into the balloon the Republicans have inflated to hide the rot at their core.

Is the Democratic Party immune to corruption? Not at all. But corruption can be tied directly to the Politics for Profit motivation that is inherent in the Republican philosophy--such as it is. Most of those Democrats who've been caught up in corruption have fallen prey to this Politics for Profit motivation. They no longer serve the interest of the American people...they serve themselves, and that's the crime at the center of everything. As soon as a politican turns his or her back on the people of this nation for his or her own benefit, any hope of democracy maintaining its hold in this country takes one more hit.

We're not extremists...we're Americans. And, what's more, we're Americans who pay attention, who believe in America. That we can continue to make a difference by working for what we believe to be the interests of all Americans.

Unfortunately, that means working AGAINST the Politics for Profit motive evinced by the Republican Party and their Democratic collaborators.

That doesn't make us extreme...it makes us patriots.
