Most important election in Calif. (maybe the country) is for Debra Bowen.
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 04:52 PM by LaPera
The race for California Secretary of State is perhaps the most important election in the country, in terms of its ramifications for the 2008 presidential election. Debra Bowen was the first candidate endorsed by CFD in this midterm election, primarily because she is so eminently qualified for this highly important position. She is a state senator who repeatedly has initiated legislation to preserve our voting rights and our interest in fair elections. She is the most expert of all California legislators in the area of election rights, and we are truly fortunate to have a champion willing to fight for us and serve in this critical position. For those of us who remember Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004, we need Debra Bowen as California Secretary of State to prevent yet another stolen presidential election in 2008.

Her opponent, Bruce McPherson, is not actually an elected official, but was appointed to the position by Gov. Schwarzenegger when a scandal was concocted and forced the resignation of the Democrat who had been elected. McPherson’s goal is to use the Diebold voting machines throughout California and ignore their documented vulnerabilities to hacking and other systemic flaws, while Bowen supports verifiable voting with a paper trail. The contrast between the candidates is stark, and the implications of this race are truly national in nature.

This California Secretary of State race is extremely important - Bush/Rove and the rest of the republicans are counting on pushing McPherson right on though, so McPherson can push the republicans right on through in California in 2008.

The republicans will spend as much money as it takes, they'll put pressure on newspapers to endorse McPherson, whatever it takes, this race is so critical for the republicans, to be able to steal California. The republicans desperately want & need a republican Secretary of State counting the votes in the 2008 elections. The republicans know they can't win CA - legally or fairly, there is no way! The republican must steal it ….and no easier way than though the Secretary of States office via the Diebold electronic voting machines “counting” the votes.

Bowen is very well informed, the Diebold voting machines, (and just as the elected Democratic former Secretary of State, Kevin Shelley was), Bowen is completely against having the Diebold machines in the State of California...One of the reasons was the behind the scenes tactics, forcing the elected Democrat Shelley to resign. As planned it then became republican Guv Arnold’s job to appoint another republican (Bruce McPherson) as CA Sec. of State. Immediately McPherson lied and started allowing the TESTED as unreliable & extremely hackable Diebold machines into California against many protests. And McPherson has since refused and canceled promised appearances to discuss it...

We all saw what happened this past June in San Diego...It’s whomever the untraceable votes the Diebold machines say is the winner, becomes the winner. Officially counted and certified by the Secretary of State, Republican McPherson's office. Even though the machines can and have never proved who really won or lost.

This is the most important race in California and maybe the whole country, If one thinks about it in terms of California’s electoral votes (55) the most by far in the country, in the 2008 presidential election as well as California sends the most representatives to Congress than any other state in the country. Its not hard to see how important it is to try and get Democrat Debra Bowen elected as CA Secretary of State…

However, the republicans in CA are keeping this CA Secretary of State race very low key right now, but be sure before November 7th - there will a huge republican money blitz supporting republican McPherson while the again popular Republican Governor Schwarzenegger will be giving McPherson his endorsement…(count on it).

Bowen needs and deserves our help, support & our donations...

PLEASE DONATE.... WE must make sure DEBRA BOWEN wins.

SUPPORT DEBRA BOWEN FOR CA SECRETARY OF STATE!

4. I understand she is the underdog according to the polls? what is going
on in California? Here it's supposed to be a Democratic wave and one of the most Democratic states in the country is intent to put Arnold back in the Governors mansion and perhaps give the GOP the Sec of State race as well.

8. The race is very close. And how many civilians do you know
that even know what a SOS is or does?

Debra needs $ to promote her campaign.

She also needs phonebankers -- you can work from home.

24. I just donated a few minutes ago to Bowen...
I had meant to do so a while back, so this post really made me get out the card and donate.

I am planning on doing some phonebanking for Jerry McNerney this next weekend, but I am thinking it is even more critical to get Bowen to win the SOS position.

Your absolutely right that most people have no idea how important the role of the Sec. of State is....

27. Until Harris and Blackwell, I had no idea how important the SOS is...
Ouch. Extremely painful lesson.

They are finagling to make CA the next FL and OH. We really need Bowen to win!

I just made a donation now!

29. Same here...I never realized either the importance of the SOS...
Debra Bowen has got to win.... I seriously fear for the future of our country if California and all its valued "Electoral Votes" is allowed to be controlled by a Republican hack like Bruce Mcpherson...

9. Arnold will win unfortuanly, BUT Debra Bowen is about four points up!
Edited on Thu Oct-26-06 04:53 PM by LaPera
However, we must get out the votes and make people aware of how important the Sec. of State and Debra Bowen race is to CA and the country. And a donation will help Bowen.

14. Arnold's winning because they are fixing the polls.
Rasmussen came out with a poll a month ago that had Arnold leading by ONLY 8 pts. Now, suddenly he's ahead by HOW MUCH? WTF has he done to gain that many points? It's BS. The last census here in CA. put caucasians as the state minority...the Hispanic population support for Arnold is in the teens. You do the math.

16. I agree! This may well be the most important race in the country!
As California goes, so goes the nation. And, people, things are not good in California, not good at all. This state has been targeted for Diebold Rule. It's just as clear as it can be that the fascists intend to turn this state "red" against the will of the people. And the only thing that stands between us and that horrible fate is Debra Bowen.

Bowen is handicapped by what may be the worst Democratic candidate for governor we've ever seen, Phil Angelides. Another washout "centrist" Democrat whose web site is a bunch of nothing platitudes. I think he'd be an okay governor, of the Gray Davis type. He's not a bad guy at all. It's just that he completely lacks imagination, clarity of vision and fire in his belly. He is an excellent example of the worst of Democratic Party "centrism" statewide and nationwide. And he's losing, big time, and may carry the whole Democratic ticket with him.

My only hope is that California voters have a penchant for putting opposite party candidates in the second positions in state government--Lt. Governor, A.G. and Secretary of State. It's happened quite often. Voters may vote for Schwarz and turn right around and vote straight Democratic on the rest of the ticket.

And Bowen's race is so goddamned important! Bushite corporate control of our election system--their electronic voting machines run on TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code--is the elephant in the room. It WAS the fascist coup. The date was Oct. 29, 2002, the day that George Bush signed the "Help America Vote Act," by which $3.9 billion dollars was poured into our election system, through the fingers of local election officials, right into the pockets of electronic voting corporations with very close ties to the Bush Junta and to far rightwing causes. They fast-tracked these untested, crapass, insecure, and extremely insider hackable voting systems all over the country. The two worst ones--Diebold and ES&S--"counted" 80% of the nation's votes in 2004, under a veil of corporate secrecy.

McPherson is a Diebold shill. He is undoing all of Kevin Shelley's reforms, and has thrown open the doors to every manner of Bushite vote stealing--from secretly programmed machines, to strategic machine "breakdowns," to lack of oversight of corrupt county officials, to fraudulent, illegal machine "certifications," to the use of worthless "provisional" ballots to suppress Democratic votes. He has removed all the checks and balances from the Sec of State's office, and has surrounded himself with Bushites and Diebold advocates as advisers.

Bowen is a lifelong advocate of open government, and will reign these S.O.B's in, and bring TRANSPARENCY back into our election system. She will be a leader in the country on the all-important matter of election reform. She's got a lot of very corrupt county election officials to ride herd on, who have made deals with Diebold, ES&S and other bad actors, and entrenched interests of all kinds, including within the Democratic Party leadership in the state legislature (who colluded with the Bushites in "swift-boating" Kevin Shelley out of the Sec of State's office, or hid under their desks). But, bottom line, she will give election reformers and the public a fair hearing; she will have good public interest advisers; and everything she does will be aboveboard. She is also a passionate advocate of these things--of good government, of transparency, of election integrity. She is no "centrist" on these matters. She is a reformer--and a brilliant defender of clean government and transparent, verifiable elections.

We MUST save California from Bushite-controlled elections!

PLEASE SUPPORT DEBRA BOWEN! SEND MONEY! SPREAD THE WORD!

----------------------

Why am I bothering to call for votes and support of Debra Bowen, if our election system is already rigged (and I DO think it is)? 1) I think turnout can overwhelm the machines, in some cases; 2) If we don't vote, then we can't analyze the results for fraud, in on-going efforts to reform the system; 3) The huge Absentee Ballot protest in California--indicating high consciousness of the problem among ordinary voters, which will mean more votes for Bowen and good momentum for reform; 4) Bowen isn't going to go away--if she loses unfairly, she will fight back, and will stay with the election reform movement until we win.
