Bush admits it's all about who controls the Oil

http://abcnews.go.com/ThisWeek/story?id=2594541&page=2

<snip>

BUSH:

I know some Americans don't think that is a threat. I view it as a threat because — and the reason it's a threat is I can conceivably see a world in which radicals and extremists control oil. And they would say to the West: You either abandon Israel, for example, or we're going to run the price of oil up. Or withdraw…

:wow:

2. Any sane person would find alternative fuels so we can be energy
independent, and better for the environment. They'll be fine, selling their nasty old fuels to china and everyone else (until our better fuels catch on) and we'll all be happier.

9. Yeah, we'll never fight over energy again
No problems. No unintended consequences. More people will be able to use more of it, and we'll be able to keep the same lifestyles, and even increase them for billions of people. Happy days.

If only we could be energy independent in a completely connected globe. Not sure how that happens, but I'm sure we'll try.

3. This has been slipping out more and more lately.
A few weeks ago in one of those Rose Garden rants, he said something along the lines of:

"just imagine if the terrorists took over Iraq. Imagine how they would use control of oil to cripple our economy"

Of course, no one bothered to ask a follow up to this.

4. What a fucking idiot....if he'd tossed all that WAR money into renewable
research, we'd all probably be well on our way to ten dollar a month utility bills.

He's such an asshole.

7. I just saw Syrianna last night
so yeah, pretty much, it's all about the oil. Or the strategic importance of securing petroleum for the US.

10. They are afraid of being like the U.S. car companies.
The oil men see alternative energy as a threat to their livelihood.

13. No! It's about protecting marriage! And unborn babies! And stem cells!
It's not about oil. I voted to stop all those pagan libruls from living their sinful, hedonistic lives.

17. So you invade country based
on lies, and leave 655,000 people dead so far, to steal their oil.
Sounds like armed robbery to me - to The Hague.

18. Security or our health
In addition to oil being a security issue I have for a long time been thinking that we as human beings would be healthier if we no longer burned oil - it is causing many people to be less healthy.

In our prosperity we as a country have become sicker than third world countries.

Perhaps we should let them have the oil and go for the healthier alternatives.
