If we simply seek to exact revenge, well then, it says we are vengeful and hate-filled people.

If we respect them, more than they would even consider respecting us, then that says we are kind people.

It is our choice.

1. Soooo....

are you advocating that all the crimes committed by the current cabal should go unpunished?

How is holding someone accountable for their high crimes and misdemeanors equated to revenge? So, now we can't prosecute bad people for fear we'll be seen as vengeful?

I just don't get it how anyone would advocate not prosecuting the whole lot of them.

History will have a dim view of them for what they have done. It will have an even dimmer view of us who will let them get away with what they have done.

One thing history will not record is how oh so nice we were for letting them get away with it.

3. If we roll back their extra-constitutional powers...
that will suffice for me. I care more about America than I do about my own gratification.

7. I want to see every last one of them prosecuted and sentenced,
even if they are sentenced to death, which I don't normally condone.

2. Obviously if we lose this is just a bunch of happy talk.

But I just want to make sure people understand that we are not tyrants, we are Democrats. We believe in freedom and debate, because we can win that debate. They shut debate down and poison it with hatred. A hatred that has even bled over to our party. We have been the victims of tyranny and should not seek to institute it upon others.

4. Justice is not vengeance though
I mean we can be nice to a certain extent, but we can't be nice to the point of letting them off the hook for what they've done.

6. If we keep asking for impeachment...
which the future Speaker said is off the table, she will simply not listen to us. She will listen to the other Democrats who are willing to forgive.

what they've done is unforgivable!

10. Impeachment might be off the table
but investigation certainly isn't. And if evidence is found that gives us a stronger case for impeachment, than Speaker Pelosi might well change her mind.

12. Oh I have no doubt that the evidence does indeed exist...
but I want it to come out on its own. That way Democrats look good and Republicans look even worse.

5. They'll take your respect of them and use it to destroy you.
So far, I've seen the Dems pretty much take everything the Repukes have to throw at them. I doubt we will be seeing revenge from Dems. Just not in their nature.

9. Isn't that the same argument made to torture the detainees...
that they simply use what we give them in process against us?

It says more about us than it does them. Just like the terrorists, the world (and the USA) already know Bush & Co. is corrupt and evil. They have not formed an opinion of us.

11. Not the same thing at all, why would you respect someone who
tortures others? They have not formed an opinion of us? Where have you been for the last 6 years?

15. But no one is (seriously) advocating that we torture or restrict rights
of the republicans, merely that we bring them to justice for any crimes that they have committed. I think that the world would be disappointed in us, and rightfully so, if we fail to do any less.

Unless and until war criminals are brought to justice and imprisoned for 20 years to life, we're an outlaw nation - a nation of criminals without honor and without justice.

Yes, our behavior always speaks more about us than about others. In this case, complicity in war crimes makes us war criminals - every bit as much as turning a blind eye to the murder of 650,000 Iraqis using our tax dollars makes us accessories to mass murder.

17. It's not vengeance that I want.
It's accountability, and to try to repair some of the damage that this admin has brought to our country and our world. It's unlikely that this will be achieved without some measure of pain for the other side. That's not the aim though.
