GOP disillusionment with Bush grows
From Capitol Hill Blue:

While die-hard Republicans try to present a unified front in support of President George W. Bush’s evasion of the law and Constitution in ordering nonstop spying on Americans, splits are showing in the GOP ranks.

“What's wrong with it is several-fold,” former GOP Congressman Bob Barr says of the domestic spying. “One, it is bad policy for our government to be spying on American citizens through the National Security Agency. Secondly, it's bad to be spying on Americans without court oversight. And thirdly, it's bad to be spying on Americans apparently in violation of federal laws against doing it without a court order.”

Barr, one of the most conservative members of Congress when he served in the House, leads an increasing group of disenchanted Republicans who have had enough of Bush’s misuse of the law and encroachment of civil liberties that are supposed to be protected by the Constitution. He has joined with fellow conservative firebrand Phyllis Schlafly and the ultra-liberal American Civil Liberties Union to fight renewal of many of the rights-robbing provisions of the USA Patriot Act.

And he’s not alone. Republican Senators Chuck Hagel of Nebraska, Larry Craig of Idaho and Olympia Snowe of Maine question Bush’s actions along with Pennsylvania Republican Arlen Specter, chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee.

1. GREAT! Republicans will offer Bush a "tisk tisk" before voting YES
to everything he wants to do.
*Yawn*
Fuck you, Barr. You were Mr. Impeachment for Bill Clinton's hummer, but where are you today? Put some of that energy to use to de-throne The King, or at the very least, shut him the fuck up. Your opinion is worthless to anyone but you.

2. Barr could not even win his Republican primary
Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 01:21 AM by firefox
Just how few Representatives have managed to lose re-election in the last 10 years? Barr is part of that handful, but he could not even win his primary. What a has-been and irrelevant artifact. Get on the impeachment train Bob and act like you are not an idiot.

3. Impeachment??
The thought of President Cheney terrifies me senseless. Let's skip the impeachment and leave the Boy King in the White House, but for heaven's sake, let the Dems use all of this "disenchantment" in the GOP rank and file to bring back swing voters. I might survive until 08 if the Dems could get Congress back....

4. Wow...the newbies sure are adept at confusing "impeachment" with
"conviction." I've seen an awful lot of newer DUers warning us against talk of impeachment, for fear of (booga booga!) Big Bad Voodoo Cheney becoming president. It doesn't always work that way...impeachment doesn't mean removal from office (Clinton served out his term, remember?). I want Bush impeached...I want a permamnt mark on his record, a bloody blot on his legacy.

6. Let's do both....impeach and convict. There's more than enough evidence.

14. Don't worry, Crashcart will be impeached first
if Fitzgerald's grand jury indicts him for espionage.

15. You think Cheney would be able to keep the presidency?
I think he would be impeached in a matter of months.

They both need to be taken down. Taking down Cheney would probably be even easier than taking down the self-confessed lawbreaker *.

17. So impeach Dickhead too. Certainly there is ample reasons for
his impeachment as there is for Chimpy's.

7. Barr faced another incumbent Republican due to redistricting
in the primary.

I'll take any criticism of Bush from the right that comes his way.

5. The "Ultra-Liberal" ACLU?
Edited on Thu Dec-29-05 02:46 AM by beltanefauve
Gimme a break. They defended David Duke's right to be on the ballot, remember?

Not knocking the ACLU, of course, just Doug Thompson's choice of words.

9. Phyllis Schlafly??? You've got to be kidding. I never thought I'd live to
see the day that she was against Bush, Republicans, and/or anything they say or do. Bush IS in trouble if people of Schafly's ilk think he is wrong.
