Reichwingers voting to delete Andy Stephenson's Wiki article!
Edited on Mon Oct-16-06 02:46 AM by RadiDem
Please weigh in with you thoughts!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_del...

NOW they're embarrassed that they smeared him while he lay dying on his deathbed, and even after!

Don't let them get away with 'erasing' Andy's legacy on Wiki, and sweeping their own shameful history under the rug!

1. Non-notable?
90% of wiki is irrelevant crap, and they're going after him again?

irrelevant? crap? Say it isn't so.

Now this, maybe
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seinfeld
and definitely this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everybody_Loves_Raymond

90% you say? How sad, then, that I find this

I mean, shirley, there is an entry for codes.

and one for Herbert Spencer Zim, author of "Codes, and secret writings"

7. No; somebody proposed deletion and others recommend keeping the entry.
So I haven't seen how a regular citizen can chime in and advocate keeping it.

5. If you're not registered on Wiki
You can register in about 60 seconds, and don't even need an email address.

Then click 'edit this page' on the page I linked to and add your comments at the bottom,

you can practice here:

10. Thanks.
I am registered and have edited another pages, but I assumed that the nomination process was some mechanism more like a vote or poll. Gracias.

8. You need a wiki account, {edited}
Edited on Mon Oct-16-06 03:10 AM by greyl
then login and join the discussion.
Wiki users with a history of contributing to wiki ie editing and adding to articles have a lot more weight than a brand new user. We need to very careful with how much noise we make here on the DU boards, because it's agains t wiki policy to rally "partisan" troops on other fora to sway opinion there. Non-public PMs and private emails are the best way to go.
What sucks, is that other conservative boards are probably organizing in their own way to get it deleted.
(check out the discussion page at the DU entry to get an idea of how wiki politics can be)

edit: I think a good plan of action would be to argue that improving the article is a more encyclopedic approach than deleting the page. I also kind of doubt that it will get deleted, because there are some quite sensible and reasonable admins at wikipedia.

6. This is an OUTRAGEOUS 'bad faith nomination'
and is TOTALLY about trying to hide their own shameful history and not Andy's notability.

13. Did Wiki do this or was it the anal retentive types there?
I like Wikipedia but there's a real right wing club there that shouldn't be tolerated.

I hope we get an alternative that's more reasonably edited, well that's actually edited.

When it's good, it's very good.

When it's bad, like this, I wonder if it's really any good.

14. Wiki is run by the 'inmates'
I could actually nominate the article on Ronald Reagan for deletion based on non-notability if I wanted to. It would be shot down, but I could still do it.

Just noticed that Bev Harris' article has been nominated for deletion too, by the same group of Cons.

18. Wikipedia isn't a democracy.
This means that it's quite possible the page will be kept, because no matter how many Freepers vote to delete the page, their votes don't count. The deletion page is just a place where each side can argue for or against deleting it. The final decision will be made by consensus, not a vote.

Unfortunately, what is meant by "consensus" isn't entirely clear. Wikipedia has many flaws, among them the fact that idiots with axes to grind (like Freepers) can cause mayhem almost unchecked.

As long as people make polite, sensible, and reasoned comments on the deletion page, consensus will likely be to keep the page. Let the Freepers be frothing idiots who sling insults or say nothing other than "Delete" (instead of making reasoned arguments why the article should be removed). That makes it less likely their opinions will matter.

22. Done!
*'''emphatically, categorically, a STRONGKEEP''' This is a matter of preserving a historical record of a debate-- whether Andy will ultimately be proved correct or not is irrelevant to the argument. This isn't about whether Andy was right-- the thing is, eventually Andy became a story in his own right. That's why we have to preserve this. Period.

the proverbial "Memory Hole". Let them live with what they did. Shameful.

24. I know first hand the work of those claiming false accusations
against you. Andy's work was so important towards the awareness of the fraud going on in our elections, that he be honored and let his work be honored along with his bravery when those who had power to withold medical care from him be kept from taking any more away from this hero.

26. I couldn't figure out how to affect the information on this URL
Edited on Mon Oct-16-06 07:59 PM by truedelphi
Wikipedia site

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Andy_Stephenson#Freez...

The page not only discusses the paypal freeze that was put on Andy's account, but uses that freeze to slur him. About a month after the freeze, I "googled" paypal and found out that almost any time it received "too much money" in a given time period, it would do that. Since then, EBay has purchased PayPal since then and I believe they have revised the policy. During that time (Summer of 2005) many people were affected by PayPal's reluctance to hand over sums of cash to people who were expecting it to come to them.

Further down on the page, the posters are saying that Andy did not die but ran off with the money.
Part of the reasoning is that there was not an immediate obituary in any of the Seattle newspapers (Not an unusal occurrenence - I work hospice cases and sometimes it is a week before the obituary runs)

So if any of you attended the memorial service, or whatever, please try to post on this URL

Thanks

Carol
