I don't just want to hear them talk-I want them to STOP Alito
What difference does it make if all of them get up and speak eloquently about why Alito is not a good choice if they will not use all their power to STOP him?

And tell you what, especially Kerry. Kerry is the one who, during the election, said repeatedly that the SCOTU nomination was critical. He needs to put his money where his mouth is, even if he is not president, and not just get up and talk.

1. Bullshit - historic record matters whether TV has dumbed everyone down to
taking in only soundbites or not.

Kerry SAID he'd support a filibuster - he asked us to keep pressuring other senators on it. It came down to the call of the Judiciary Committee members and Harry Reid. THEY were the ones to call a filibuster that any other senator would support.

Don't tell TV that they won, that all Americans only live for the coarseness of the debate. Don't speak for me when it comes to the formal registration of dissent. I'm NOT a dumbed down American, and appreciate honest debate.

3. Sorry but this is a charade-First, because of the Republicans
who are calling a vote before even allowing the speeches to finish.

Reid's office told me earlier today that any senator at any time could do a filibuster, that it wasn't up to Reid to call it.

This isn't honest debate. This is a railroad rush job on a train without any brakes.

4. They aren't going to go outside protocol, though.
And it's protocol that points to Judiciary dems and Harry Reid.

Any other senator would have the judiciary Dems go postal on them and accuse them of grandstanding for the base.

5. So? IF it's true that Harry Reid is not calling the shots for every
single other senator and any of them could filibuster, perhaps ONE MAN OR WOMAN standing up against this sham would inspire the rest of them to stand up and fight it.

10. I wonder if one did that, if the rest would hang him/her out to dry
or stand behind them.

I wonder.

12. They'd be blasted by media for grandstanding for the base IF there weren't

40 other senators ready to vote against cloture. And if there were, you could be certain that Reid would be doing it or a JCDem.

9. Call him. FAX him. E-mail him.
Pester the daylights out of him so that he understands what we expect of him.

8. The only way to do that is for them to keep talking.
That's the only trick left in the bag. If they do not filibuster Alito's ascension to SCOTUS is a fait-accompli.

11. If they truly believe what they say - they will filibuster

Keep calling, don't relent before a vote is taken - keep calling - keep up the pressure....
