Will it be a 51-49 Democratic Senate?
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 04:31 PM by survivor999
Well, it's time to put my butt on the line again and give updated predictions for how the United States Senate will look after the election on November 7. Last month, I predicted a 50-50 split when all the ballots are counted -- or not counted, depending on whether or not the GOP is in charge in a given state -- and, while it seemed overly-optimistic to many, I'm sticking by that call. There's even a chance it could go to a 51-49 Democratic majority.

1. I would like it to be a 52-48 Senate.

I am hoping that we win both Missouri and Virginia.

4. I wish so too but my man Webb
is not campaigning like "Born Fighting" at all. He is too lacksadaisical about the race.

5. And that will keep Lieberman from having a veto.
Hopefully Lamont will somehow manage to win, but I'd hate to see Lieberman be the king of the hill.

2. If it is...
you can bet that the GOP will happily filibuster, and otherwise make themselves a huge pain in the ass for the Dems nonstop, and they won't worry one tiny bit about who calls them "obstructionist."

7. I refuse to get my hopes up for either the House or the Senate. I just
can't trust those who count ballots.

9. A new poll gives McCaskill a nine-point lead in MO, but I think that
is too optimistic. Still I think she is pulling ahead. Right now I think we will win:
Pennsylvania
Montana
Tennessee (Ford has really come on strong)
Rhode Island (I think a new Ras poll has Whitehouse expanding his lead)
Ohio (I think the state GOP is in such disaray that the Dems will take this seat)
Missouri

That is a pick up of six seats, so we will be at 50 (I think we'll take NJ in the end, seems Martinez is starting to gain some ground), and with Sanders in VT voting with us we will have 51. However, with 51 and the strong liklihood that Lieberman will win in CT meaning that he will use blackmail to get his way. If we can get one more seat--we could tell him to go to hell with his threats. I used to be encouraged about Virginia but if even after Macaca and other allegations of racism, Allen still retains a 5-8 point lead!

10. they'll need more than that to actually get anything done,
what with the likes of Mary Landrieu, the Nelsons, Salazar, (probably) Lieberman...it's to be expected that lot will continue to vote with Team USA, i.e., the Repbulicans.

11. The voices in my head tell me more like 60/40
What I really worry about is the investigations, and if the public can handle the magnitude of evil that will be exposed.
