One of our candidates is an older guy who is a genuinely good person and truly wants to do the right things. He's not an angry pro-lifer, and he never brings up the abortion issue in his campaign, but I know that the abortion issue genuinely bothers him. He is also a catholic, and last night the local catholic church hosted a pro-life event. One of the members specifically asked our guy to attend. This morning I got this letter. The man that wrote it is a repub candidate, a minister, and runs the salvation army store. I sure do love those repub christian values!
(BTW-ammendment 2 here allows Missourians to benefit from stem cell research, and the reason the guy is pissed in the last paragraph is because the repub candidate that lost in the primary brought his people over to the dem side and joined our guys campaign. It's become an interesting mix because the publicity man for our guy is gay, and the repubs that joined us are very religious but it's all working our great!)
letter:
I would address this directly to Mr. XXXX, but since his email goes through you, as his "campaign manager" I am speaking to you.
I think it is despicable that xxxxx xxxx showed up to Vitae Caring Foundation dinner last night when his party supports not only the tacit murder of the unborn, but it also supports Amendment 2 which is a deliberate campaign of deceit for profit.
Though I can somewhat excuse a local candidate for being a democrat because the issue of abortion is not a local issue, I cannot excuse any candidate who is running for State or Federal office who supports a party that ascribes to this culture of death.
Mr. XXXX may well say that he is a pro-life democrat which is an oxymoron, but he does not feel strongly enough about it to address it as an issue on his website.
Further, the fact that Mr. XXXX positioned himself at the exit so as to greet every pro-life individual on the way out was reprehensible. It just goes to show that some politicians have no shame, attending functions that they do not normally attend just to get votes. I have been at the last 4 Martin Luther King celebrations and not once have I seen Mr. XXXX there, yet he invoked the name of Coretta Scott King in a speech during this year's Juneteenth Celebration. More political pandering which I think does a great disservice to the political process in our area.
Further, Mr. XXXX's statements about YYYYYY YYY's organization of public protests against John F. Kerry during his visit are blatantly false. There were some boos underbreath and glances and looks exchanged, but it was patrons from a local bar that came out and caused the real hullabaloo. I have heard reports of Mr. XXXX's false statements and it is further evidence that he is not capable of running a clean campaign.
And for Mr. ZZZZZZ, who is a "statesman for Christ", who was not selected by his party because he does not currently have the governing experience to be electable to a statewide office, I am shocked that he would support a candidate who's party supports abortion on demand. ZZZZZZ has not governed in any office, he has not been a business owner, he has not presided over any sized budget other than perhaps his personal finances. Ideology is not enough to be a viable candidate, one must have experience, and that is why he was not elected, selected, or supported.
