anybody else catch Goldwater bio on one of the HBOs? amusing exchange...
the film was kind to him, an honest republican who supported abortion rights (daughter had one, with his knowledge) and gay rights. but he was also an extremist who was content to let states set their own course on civil rights, which was no course at all for many states....
and a crazy who would consider using tactical nukes in Vietnam.
but a decent fellow, overall...

at one point they had Sen. John McCain recalling Goldwater....

McCain: "Barry said to me, 'If I'd been elected president in 1964, you never would have been in that North Vietnamese prison camp.' I said, "You're right, Barry. It would have been a Chinese prison camp.'"

1. It was made by his granddaughter
I saw it a few weeks ago. It was interesting and Goldwater did sound like he had more liberal ideas than I would have thought. But, I'm still glad he wasn't elected.

3. yeah. that, and this one...
this is close to verbatim but not quite (concerning military service):
"you don't have to be straight to serve, you just have to shoot straight."

4. he was a decent guy.
in light of what current Republicans have done to our constitution. Just wrong . I can't imagine him voting for the Patriot act. Gotta understand, living in Arizona, makes one different.
