NYTimes/CBS poll: Bush has 34% approval; 83% think he's "hiding something or mostly lying" about Iraq
by Joe in DC - 10/09/2006 10:31:00 PM

The NY Times/CBS poll released this evening reaffirms what the other polls are showing. The Republicans are in trouble:

- snip -

Mr. Bush clearly faces constraints as he seeks to address the public concerns about Iraq that have shrouded this midterm election: 83 percent of respondents thought that Mr. Bush was either hiding something or mostly lying when he discussed how the war in Iraq was going.

83 percent. That is an amazing number. Americans do not trust their President on the major issue of the day.

And, Bush thinks the North Korea situation is going to help him.

11. That was the calculation I immediately made
About 1 in 6 people like to be lied to, and they don't mind if people are dying by the thousands and money is being squandered by the billions.

no it`s not goods news..it is truly a sad day for our republic

9. Of course it's sad. It should have been 83% three years ago?
It's sad and pathetic. But at least the numbers are not reversed.

10. The only quibble is with the characterization
that the Iraq war is the major issue. I think that is only true for about 40-50% of the voters. But still, this is terrific news.

Edited on Mon Oct-09-06 11:29 PM by Tom Joad
Just sayin' the 17% is a lost cause.

But if it is really 83% that's about as universal agreement as you can get on anything in this country on any subject.

25. I was talking to my mom this morning
about this particular poll result...I don't think 83% of Americans would agree that the sky is blue. More than 17% would disagree just to be ornery. *snort* This number is just unreal.

18. Looks great, but the fickle 30% will join up with the unreachable
17% when the next terror flim-flam is played. The War President will ride high over the 50% that see him without his clothes.
Not wishing this of course, just stating what I see. If the polls in November bear this out, I will be happily relieved.

28. K&R!!! I'll see your 83% and raise it 55%
Edited on Tue Oct-10-06 08:19 PM by autorank
Only 45% of likelyi voters stronglyi suport the statement that Bush won 2004 "fair and square" according to a recent Zogby Poll.

That means 55% have anything from doubts to very serious doubts that the election produced the correct result.

This is unprecedented, unhear of. I want that 55% to move up to 83%. Then our job will have been more
than done. Great post.
