Joe Maguire loses his Reuters job for writing a Coulter book

It seems Maguire got the OK to write the book and then they fired him…

On Tuesday, Joe Maguire, one of two editors in charge of markets coverage at Reuters, handed his bosses the galleys of his new book, “Brainless: The Lies and Lunacy of Ann Coulter.” On Wednesday, Mr. Maguire discovered he would have plenty of free time to promote his book, which comes out this week. Neither side in this dispute would say that he was fired.

Reuters confirmed that Mr. Maguire was granted conditional approval to write his book on Ms. Coulter — a conservative lightning rod, author and TV talking head. When asked what changed once the book was ready, a company statement pointed to Reuters’ principles of “integrity, independence and freedom from bias.”

1. Well I'll be looking for that book as soon as it hits the shelves
Let a judge decide if this book goes against Reuters policy, in the meantime lets get this book on the best sellers list.. I almost can't keep up with all the new books. Worst Person In The World, State Of Denial, Greatest Story Ever Sold, I'm in information overload...

2. Me too. I've got four new books on the go at once now
and three more waiting, and I'll still buy this book as soon as it's available. What an appropriate title too: "Brainless".

9. That kinda makes sense.
Would the book imply his "objective" reporting must be slanted? Fuel for the "liberal media" blamers.

10. Bill O'Reilly led me to DU, so hopefully this will help more out
When O'Really started his lawsuit against Al Franken for "Lying Liars...", it got me into the book, naturally. Then, I was blown away when I read the book and went online because I figured there had to be others that thought like me...I looked online for people that disliked O'Really. I found a site called "O'Reilly Sucks" and posted there several times... and, the site owner eventually pointed me to DU when I was looking for more info to rebut some lies about Bill Cinton. That was almost exactly 3 years ago now.

Before Bill O'Reilly, I never knew there was a liberal media. I was just so used to the RW echo chamber and had stopped watching the news because it was so right wing oriented. There still isn't much of a liberal media... but, at least we have a place like DU where we can go and share information.

11. It's not a matter of independence or bias.
It simply isn't bias to call a liar a LIAR, for fucksake!

Coulter can have her own opinions, but she can't have her own FACTS. Maguire's book addresses the FACTS, not the opinions.

That's the hallmark of integrity. Something of which the MSM have completely lost sight.
