How Many watch PBS NewsHour? And do you think it is balanced?
Edited on Sat Oct-07-06 09:12 AM by leftyladyfrommo
I watch the Newshour a lot and have always felt like I would get a more balanced look at stories. They always seem to have all the sides covered both from liberal and conservative angles.

But a new report out by FAIR - fairness and accuracy in reporting really slammed the Newshour. They state that there is a lack of balance and Diversity and that it offers standard corporate fair.

I find this really amazing. They state that there are way more Republicans than Democrats, way more men than women, and way more whites than other minorities.

I think I will have to kind of look at this from a different angle and see how I really feel about the report.

To read the report go over to www.rawstory.com The story is under "Blogs and Media"

2. Occassionally. But I rely on the BBC online.
They offer a wide range of in-depth reporting on most issues around the world. PBS is far better than the rest of the American MSM but still very limited.

3. My one complaint - if it is one - is that they cover so few stories
each nite. But the ones they have are in depth.

I think they have lots of women interviewees on the show. And lots of minority experts, too.

4. We stopped watching News Hour during the last years of Clinton and
every time we tried since then to watch it we felt it was no different from the rest of the Corporate Media. So, I'd probably agree with FAIR because we thought that was the case years ago.

5. I watch it because they devote less (or no ) time to salacious news
No missing blondes, low OJ stuff back in the day, and focus on stuff in detail that other networks don't even touch.

6. PBS and BBC
I watch BBC World and sometimes parts of the Lehrer report.. which is -sort of- balanced as compared to not balanced at all elsewhere. PBS is not as balanced as it should be sometimes, but it's better than most network and cable news shows.

It's clear that some of the PBS commentators/anchors are biased against liberals in favor of the GOP, even when they're discussing something with two people supposedly representing the two sides. It's difficult.

Every so often, though, they really have a good, helpful discussion.

7. I think PBS is afraid of being accused of being biased
so they allow the pendulum to swing toward the Right in their news hour.
