Two presidents named Bush to help christen carrier named after PoppyWHITE HOUSE Two Presidents Bush are helping to christen America's newest aircraft carrier today.
The current president and first lady will join the 41st president and his wife at
Northrop-Grumman's Newport News, Virginia, shipyard for the christening of the George H.W. Bush. It's the tenth and last of the Navy's Nimitz-class carriers. The 11-hundred-foot behemoth is slated to enter service in late 2008.
The Navy often names its carriers after presidents. But in this case, it's honoring the first President Bush who actually flew torpedo bombers off the carrier San Jacinto during World War Two.
But neither he nor his son will swing the bottle of sparkling wine this morning. That honor's going to the former president's daughter, Dorothy Koch.
