U.S. Homicide Statistics by Gender
Most victims and perpetrators in homicides are male
Male offender/Male victim 65.2%
Male offender/Female victim 22.6%
Female offender/Male victim 9.7%
Female offender/Female victim 2.4%

The gender distribution of homicide victims and offenders differs by type of homicide
For the years 1976-2004 combined -

* Among all homicide victims, females are particularly at risk for intimate killings and sex-related homicides.

These are just homicide stats, and don't take into account physical violence that doesn't result in death ("domestic abuse" and rape).

What do you think accounts for these differences?

2. These are definitely interesting stats -
I posted them the other day, and I couldn't make the formatting *stick* either!

Some of us have been trying to get to the bottom of "why/what" these last few days and I dare say we're no closer to the answer than we were when we began. Sigh...

Didn't mean to dupe you! (Was it within another thread, perhaps?)

I think recognizing that the differences are there -- and in several comparisons, they are quite stark -- is the first thing. (The "what.")

The "why" is surely very complex.
