Poll question: What, if anything, do the recent public statements made by...
...Vice President, Cheney that Hastert should not resign, and that the GOP will retain control of the House and Senate indicate?

1) That Cheney has lost touch with reality.

2) That Cheney knows the Diebold fix is in making the political damage from Hastert not stepping down inconsequential.

3) That Cheney is merely engaging in propaganda aimed at downplaying the Foley/Hastert mess.

4) Other, please explain.

...country back, and if it can't be done via the electoral process due to rigged machines, then we must do it through a massive, non-violent revolution of non-cooperation with this illegitimate fascist regime. It will definitely require much more than just hope, and probably much more than just turning out at the polls in large numbers.

6. It's all part of Stay the Course. That and he wants to move on because
there's an awful lot of dirt on Hastert that I am sure he would rather not come out.

7. What's so sinister about his statements?
Before you flame me, yes, i know that they said it before, and YES, i know that they stole the elections...

But do you really expect DickHead to come out and say "Well, we seem to be self-immolating right now, and we can't keep our shit together with both hands, and we'd be lucky as hell to keep any of our seats in November"?

This is electioneering. Come on now.

8. I was merely trying to get at what, if anything, people make...
...of his statements. That said, I think Cheney's reputation as a powerful, sinister, behind the scenes, member of BushCo is fairly well established here---I wasn't trying to make a case for that.

No, I wouldn't expect him to come out and truthfully acknowledge the seriousness of the mess they're in. But, if he believes the upcoming elections of November will be free and fair, it doesn't seem politically astute to me to aggressively defend Hastert.

Electioneering? Perhaps. I presume you voted #3?

12. Oh, no, I understood (i think) what the point of the poll was...
i've just read a truckload of "the fix is in" threads today based on these comments of Dickhead's. That was the point of my post. I think the alternative explanation (that it's really dumb to cop a defeatist attitude, regardless of political persuasion) is just more likely.

9. I really don't know, but I believe the following:
1.) They are all blackmailing each other. If one goes down, the others know they may be next.
2.) They have a massive vote stealing machine (including, but not limited to Diebold). They may believe, or more likely hope, that this is enough to counter massive numbers of voters turning against them.
3.) They really may have an "October surprise", and are prepared to declare martial law, cancel elections, and basically refuse to give up power. This will result in our becoming a military dictatorship. Bizarre concept, yes, but what hasn't been bizarre over the last 5 years?

...but if he believes the November elections will be honest, it seems to me it would be smarter to couch the race as tight, suggesting to your own party that turning out to vote and encouraging others to do so is imperative, and further, to refrain from comment about Hastert or at least not defend him.

That's what I would expect from a politically savvy Vice President if he really thinks it will be the voters who determine the outcome of our upcoming elections.

Don't admit that the ship is sinking; ESPECIALLY when it really is.

Isn't he the one after all who said, "We'll be greeted as liberators..."?

Well, weren't we?
